I have a LaserJet 1018 installed on my Windows 10 PC. The OS recognizes the printer connection but it will not print anything. I have tried a Test Page as well as other documents.

I tried using the internal driver and also downloaded Ij1018_1020_1022-HB-pnp-win64-en.exe.

I also ran the Print and Scan Doctor from HP - no luck.

BTW - everything works well on my WIN 7 PC.

Please help.

Jim

Hi! @WA4YWM, Thanks for stopping by HP forums!

I understand that your printer does not print on windows 10.

Don't worry I will try to help you out.

Does the copy work fine on your printer?

Please uninstall the printer driver on your computer.

Uninstall the printer from programs and features from the control panel.

Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it.

Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.

Click on print server properties.

You will get a popup, click on the driver's tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.

Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.

Restart the PC.

Update the firmware on the printer using the control panel on the printer. (Will require the printer to be connected to your wireless network.)

Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,

Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.

It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).

If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.

Restart the PC again.

Install windows built in driver on your PC and check if it helps.

Refer this article to know using the Windows Built-in Print Driver.

Let me know if this works!

Have a great day ahead! 🙂

I tried everything you suggested as best I could. I was unable to delete every reference to the printer in the registry. Some deletions were allowed while others were prevented.

I could not find your reference to "print server properties".

I re-installed the printer both with the internal driver and when that failed, I installed the downloaded driver referred to in my original post. No luck with anything.

Any other suggestions? Has this printer been used successfully with WIN 10?

@WA4YWM,

I am @Rainbow23. It looks like you were interacting with @A4Apollo. As he is out of the office today let me jump in to assist you here.

I understand that the issue still persists after following the steps provided in the previous interaction.

This issue could occur if the drivers are not configured properly.

Please follow the links below to uninstall and reinstall the drivers:

1. Uninstalling the Printer Software (Windows)

2. Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver

If the issue persists, please follow the steps in the link: http://hp.care/2m5niUw

Also, let us know how the printer is connected to the computer.

Let me know if this works.

I hope you have a good day ahead.

I once again uninstalled and removed everything that was possible.

There is a Program called LaserJet1018 that I tried to Uninstall but it fails. I tried using Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed but it failed to remove it.

I also tried once again to install and use the built in driver. That also did not work. Note that I performed all of the above as reuested by MrRobot. Thus, I have now tried all these steps twice.

I next tried the items listed in  http://hp.care/2m5niUw. I tried HP Print and Scan Doctor as I have done several times previously - still doesn't work.

Next tried the manual procedure. I do not have HP Printer Assistant so I was not able to use that as requested.

I will repeat:

1. The printer works on a WIN 7 PC

2. I can use the printer from the WIN 10 PC on the network with it shared by the WIN 7 PC

3. It is connected to the WIN 10 PC by a USB cable for this attempt..

I want it to work from the WIN 10 PC for my own convenience instead of having to access it from another PC.

@WA4YWM, Thanks for your response and time.

Thanks for trying out the steps.

I have checked the driver compatibility guide for your printer.

And you can only update the driver using windows update, There is no printer from HP.

Refer the driver compatibility guide for more information.

Try installing the printer on a new PC and check if you are able to install printer driver using windows update.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Have a wonderful day ahead! 🙂

I do not have a newer PC than the one I am trying to install it on.

I have tried using the driver from Windows Update several times in this process with no luck.

Are there any other things to try or am I out of luck in trying to do this?

I tried the procedure you listed in the last post. I was able to make the Print Servers selection and remove the Drivers and Package. I then re-installed the driver. I still could not print.

I discovered that my WIN 10 32-bit laptop will print to the 1018. I observed that it has a package called hp_lj1020_Full_Solution. I installed this package on my 64-bit WIN 10 PC but again no luck.

I believe it is time to call a halt to these attempts. What do you think?

I will consider asking for help from the link you provided. But will they provide help of that nature for no cost considering the age of the printer?

@WA4YWM,  Thanks for your response and time.

Kudos to you for trying out the steps.

As you mentioned even after uninstalling and reinstalling the printer drivers did not fix the problem.

Please try performing a soft reset and NVRAM reset on your printer and check if it helps.

Since the steps to perform NVRAM reset is confidential, I will send you the steps in a private message please have a look into your inbox for more information.

Let me know how it goes!

Have a wonderful day ahead! 🙂
