I just got this printer Friday.  I have tried scanning two pages and The document feeder tray does not recognize that there is paper in the document feeder. Same  thing happens when I try copying. Thanks.

Welcome to the HP Forums Laine2014,

I see by your post that the ADF isn't pulling in the paper to copy or scan.
I can help you with this issue.

I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 30-60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.

 

I have provided a document to go through the steps to see if it will help resolve this issue.

The hard reset helped and did not help.

 

After the hard reset, the document now feeds when I scan from the computer.

 

After the hard reset, the destination computer is no longer recognized by the printer when scanning from the printer menu. When I press Scan and Scan to Computer, I get this error message: No Computer Found. (Previous to the hard reset, the computer was recognized, the wheels spun (without loading the scan document), and a new digital file appeared on the computer.

 

The link you provided takes me to a generic help page, not to a document about this printer.

I picked up the cover and pressed slightly on the long white feeder bar. It worked!
