I have 2 fairly new (still under warranty) Laserjet Pro M425DN printers.  Both of these are having the same problem.  When you try to scan a paper loaded in the ADF, it will scan the 1st page and then continue to try scanning more pages that aren't there.  Eventually it will give you an error saying there isn't anymore pages loaded.  I have contacted HP support and they recommended uninstalling and reinstalling the software.  I have tried this multiple times.  Then they recommended downloading and install the latest firmware on the printer.  After that we still have the same problem.  I really need to get this problem figured out.  These 2 printers are on computers with Windows XP pro and Windows 7 Pro.

Thanks

James

Can you Copy Multiple Pages from the ADF?  Trying to determine if this may be a hardware issue with the ADF's feed roller.   Please let us know and we can do some more troubleshooting.

Tested both printers doing multiple pages in ADF and just copying.  Gets the same problem after the last page goes through it keeps trying to pull more pages through when there aren't any.  Since both printers are doing exactly the same thing I wouldn't think it is hardware related with the pickup rollers in the ADF.  It almost seems like it is in the firmware.  But I'm just guessing.

Sorry for the delay in my response.  Here is a document that will explain what is happening.  Basically it is a sensor error in the ADF> The document has pictures of exactly where this sensor is.  http://h41302.www4.hp.com/km/saw/view.do?docId=emr_na-c03538824&hsid=51317965&sz=2061

If this year continues to occur I would get the printers serviced.

Thanks

meant to type "error" not "year". Sorry about that.

Not much use posting a SAW document link when most people won't be able to read or access it ?

If it's the same document on CSN then it's not public anyway so disclosure level does not allow sending it out.

Anyway, if you open the ADF lid so you can see the feed area the flag can stick against the plastic, look where the rectangular separation pad is, the flag is towards the front side of that, tapping the plastic tray the paper sits in will often release the flag.

If it keeps sticking you need the flag replacing but on these printers the ADF is a whole unit so get this done while they are under warranty.

Hi.

In case of you are getting Scanner Error 16, ADF paper feedeing problems or ADF rollers constantly runinng after turning on the device or won't stop after pulling one sheet of paper:

I would sugget you to remove ADF

1. Remove left cover of device,

2. Unplug Black flat ribbon cables (the narrower one is going inside ADF, the thick one to flatbed scanner) and white connector with multicolor wires and also screwed black grounding cable.

3. Unscrew 4 screws at the back of flatbed scanner assembly,

4. Remove flat cables from ferrite filters and pull the scanner towards the rear side of device - be carefull not to  damage the flat cables.

5. Flip over ADF and scanner assembly together (on some cloth to prevent ADF from scratches),

6. Remove two black screws and L shape black plastic covering flat cables,

7. Carefully allign flat and multicolor cable,

8. Open ADF, hold it with one hand and remove two hinges from the holes by slightly pushing on the front side of hinges using the end of flat screwdriver,

According to HP, the ADF is a part, which should not be disassembled, if device is covered by warranty, otherwise you can try to repair on your own risk

Flat ribbon cable is responsible for scanner inside the ADF, and the multicolor cable for ADF paper feedeing mechanism.

So if you can't see any reaction on ADF's scanner during power-up and initialization (LED should flash for several times), that's mean the flat cable is damaged (usually you will get Scanner Error 16 and device will be locked for any feature).

But it is most common to have a ADF with damaged multicolor cable and the reason is plastic guide through which two cables of ADF passes.

Check the continuity of the cable/cables using basic multimeter and most likely you'll fix the issue.

For that, you need to disassemble the ADF - it's not so easy, but also not so hard.

Just be patient and you'll success.

BR,

Hovhannes
