I just installed a M606 in the place of a LJ500 that was connected to a system that is on a linux platform.
The pages generated from the system are one page text and printed as one page on the LJ 500.
The new M606 prints the pages "2 sided". The settings on the printer are set to the factory defaults ans "1 sided" is the default.
When the M606 is setup on a windows machine it prints fine.
This leads me to believe there is a printer language setting that must be fixed on either the M606 or on the linux system side. Or perhaps an update to the linux system but I am not sure.
Has anyone run into this issue with a newer laserjet model connected to an older linux based system?
If so, I will take any and all advice?
Thank you.

I'm not quite sure what you are saying here; do you mean:
- The single page of text is printed on one face of the sheet (the other face being blank), but the sheet appears to go through a duplex unit, and is printed on the 'wrong' side of (preprinted) paper.
- The single page of text is split and printed on more than one face and/or sheet.
- ... or what?

So I have a prinout from the system that is 7 pages. Each page should print out seperately. They are coming out as page 1 on 1st side and page 2 on second side of the first single page. So instead of getting 7 individual pages we are getting 3.5 pages.
The documents are instructions and need to be single pages that can be posted on a board for users.
I know its probably obvious that I could "double print" and get what we need but that seems foolish and a terrible waste of paper and supplies.
Look forward to any responses

Windows printer drivers usually (although not always!) include the appropriate 'set plex mode' command sequence(s) in the print job initialisation, and these will over-ride whatever is set as the printer default.
I've no idea whether or not your *n*x system includes these sequences; if it doesn't, then your symptoms imply that the printer default is set to print in duplex mode.

Just to clarify, if you invoke a Configuration report (via the appropriate menu item on the printer front panel menu system), does this show Duplex as On or Off?
Assuming that the M606 is a network model, the easiest way to change the default setting (if necessary) is to change it via the Embedded Web Server - just point your browser at the IP-address of ther device.

all settings are correct on printer for printing. Mssage from system vendor for system that is printing to m606::
I have no experience with the HP LaserJet model M606 and how similar or different it is to our tried-and-proven models 4200/4300. The PPM workstation is configured to talk to the printer in HP's JetDirect language. It does not specify "2-sided" nor does it specify "single-sided" when sending data to the printer, therefor the printer's default setting should prevail.
Options going forward:
1) Verify that the M606 has JetDirect built-in. Ask HP support about version differences to 4200.

Which is exactly the point i was trying to make earlier, and why I asked you to obtain a Configuration report from the printer.
The differences between your LJ4200, LJ4300, LJ 500 and LJ M606 printers is almost certainly that the (usually configurable) Duplex default setting is different on the devices.
To change the printer's own default setting for Duplex from On to Off.
Do this via the Embedded Web Server on the printer (assuming that it is networked); just point your browser at the printer's IP-address (which should be available on the Configuration report).
This example is for a LJ Pro 400 Colour MFP M475dn, but I'd guess that the EWS on your M606 model looks similar:
