I have a MFP M26nw laser jet, need a flashlight to see display, they sent me another one, same problem-is it a manufacturing issue?

The backlight on the display is either not plugged in or is malfunctioning.  Continue working with HP support on this for additional replacement parts and serving options.

Spend another 2 hours with a tech , lug another box back to fed ex again, no thanks, how about they send a printer with a display that is visible without a flashlight.

You will have to work that one out with HP Support.  This is something that will be covered, you have to work through the support process to get to the solution.

The calls to support are answered by someone in a foreign country often times with an accent hard to understand, that is not appreciated, use American workers.

You have a few choices on how to proceed:

- Make your own printer and support it however you please

- Get your hands on a Service Manual and try to fix the problem on your own

- Bring the printer to a local HP certified repair tech, have them contact HP for you

- Salvage your current printer and recover some of your lost investment

- Find a way to make it through the support process that HP provides yourself

- Do nothing and hope the problem goes away

Im interested to help you if you want to continue searching for a solution.  My experience tells me that working through the through the normal support process is your best chance at success with the least amount of risk at the expense of personal time.  Next best choice would be to contact a local HP certified repair shop and have them complete the repairs for you.

However, please keep your comments and opinions constructive towards the goal.

I was right, HP supervisor called and explained it is a design issue, and their people were wrong to try and replace it. He is sending a free toner which is what I offered to settle when it became obvious with the replacement that these printers have a design flaw with the lighting (lack of) with the control panel, you need a bright light or flashlight near the printer to see it. I can live with it, but not happy about it.

it appears this printer was designed with an agreement with Walmart to offer an inexpensive laser jet printer option, we'll see how long it lasts.

The help suport people made obvious mistakes, furthermore the second time they wanted to send me another replacement printer and go thru all that trouble to send it back. Sometimes you just have to use common sense and put your foot down when dealing with these people and this company.

Thanks for the confirmation on this design issue and limitation.

I searched around and found another thread that is related:

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/LaserJet-Printing/HP-LaserJet-Pro-M125nw-the-LCD-display-does-not-light...

Although the HP rep did not acknowledge or confirm the design issue we can use it as evidence to support your findings here.  The thread was posted back on 03/28/2016 so we know its been around for a while.  Hopefully this information will help future readers confirm the same design issues too.

Well done sir.  I'm glad you were able to arrive at a solution, even if it wasnt the one you were hoping for.

update, the printer power went off and would not come on, I had an extra power cord and that was the problem, it appears that they may be sending out defective power cords? overall it appears to be a good cheap laser printer for the price, but we'll see how long it lasts.
