I am trying to figre out if I am low on ink or the cause is using non HP product--refills. My question is this: when i pull up the ink symbols, I can easily tell which is color and whick is black. But since teh screen is black, I cannot tell how much ink if any is left in the balck ink cartridge. However there appears to be a blue circle at the top left of the ink column with a  question mark in it. What is that telling me? If there is any ink left would it appear as black as the butterfly symbol becasue I can't tell if there is anything left?

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

If you are using refills, the Low on Ink indicator would not work.

You can still print until it fades (good indication that it's out of ink)

Thanks.

I am not asking if the "low" would work. I am asking if I should be able to a see anything. When the display comes up, there are two towers or columns. Left one is color, right one is black. The color tower indicates with a tri color inside the tower how much inkis left. Inside the black ink tower I see nothing. Again what does the circle with question mark mean and should I be seeing anything in the black tower that illustartes how much if any ink remains?

If what you are saying is that the tower will display nothing for a refill then I understand. So my only solution is to buy a HP cartridge?

Another question: if black ink is low or empty and nothing appears on sheets being printed, does a low or empty black cartridge prevent the color from printing and vice versa?

Hi

Again what does the circle with question mark mean and should I be seeing anything in the black tower that illustartes how much if any ink remains?

>>it should not be showing any ink level.  The question mark is probably indicating that it doesn't know the ink level (since it's refill)

If what you are saying is that the tower will display nothing for a refill then I understand

>> Yes, should show nothing.

So my only solution is to buy a HP cartridge?

>>Yes, Genuine HP inks would show the ink level

Another question: if black ink is low or empty and nothing appears on sheets being printed, does a low or empty black cartridge prevent the color from printing and vice versa?

>> It might be able to print for a certain time before it stops and you will need to change the inks.

Hope that helps!
