Stumbled on to this thread as well. Incredible that HP still has not provided a firmware update to solve this issue. We have a small offic e in the bedroom and the LED light is simply overwhelming. Are the engineers that dumb to actually think that a blinking light is desired by ANY consumer outhere? I'am returning the printer.

I couldn't agree more with the other comments. Love the printer, cannot stand the stupid blinking light. Who came up with such a stupid idea? Name any product on the market where people WANT a constant BRIGHT blinking light - there is none. The only acceptable use for a blinking light in any product is to indicate charging, and even then it's kind of annoying, but at least it's only for a few hours and it actually serves a function.
As others have said I am seriously considering returning it due to this issue, PLEASE fix it ASAP. Otherwise the printer is amazing, such a shame.

Sorry - not sure what you are referring to when you say there is an answer other than a firmware patch?
It has been almost "2 YEARS" since this thread started and covering the blinking LED with tape, a piece of a credit card, or whatever is not the answer. The answer is for HP to wake up and fix this issue with a simple flag in the firmware.
Unforuntately, HP is not listening to these forums and obviously doesn't care to resolve this issue and enough people have kept the printer - myself included - to not create a need to fix.
Once upon a time HP provided BOTH great products "AND" service.... Unfortunately it is 2017 and that is no longer the case.

Just installed an HP M102w which has the same problem. It seems some moron in HP product design has replicated this stupid behavior across multiple product lines.
If anyone at HP is listening, as someone with extensive experience in usability design and testing I can tell you there are very sound reasons to change this function, and no good reason to keep it. Blinking indicates activity, trouble, need for attention. It makes people feel like your product has a problem. In fact, some other HP printers use a blinking power button to indicate trouble.
Either a steady light (preferably turning off when entering sleep mode) or no light would be far preferable to a blinking light to indicate standby.
For anyone considering returning your HP, be aware that HP's competitors do better on this issue. In particular, my Samsung M2020W laser printer is equal in every way to HP's M102w, and does not have this problem.
