M277dw prints online items only in color

When I print a map, for example (or this page) it only prints in color, despite having selected B+W as the print option.  I contacted HP support (from somewhere in India/Pakistan/Bangladesh?). The technician led me through the usual t'shooting steps (restart computer/printer, what version of software was installed, what OS, print a document (.xls or .doc) etc.) . This ate up a great deal of time, despite me having told him that I had already tried those things. I had to stop (after 90 minutes) because I had to go to work. As much as I love how color maps look, I'd rather print how I want.

Can you successfully print b&w other things than maps?

What applciation you are printing from? a map application, a web browser?

If it is from the web, have you tried printing from another browser such as Google Chrome, Firefox?

Just tried printing an .xls file in grayscale and it printed just B&W. Printed the google home page and it printed in color despite having selected B&W as a print option.
