Dear Double-U-Dee,

Latest update to my issue regarding the scanning function, I contacted Apple and the person there made me delete the printer from the print queue in System Preferences, then add it again.

Now trying to scan from Image Capture it worked. So, the problem is not with the operating system, it is specifically with the hp software.

I have to say I am truely disappointed with hp not rolling out software that works with the new operating system BEFORE the operating system is launched. I am sure Apple give enough time to all developers to upgrade their apps and software in time.

I still would like to use the hp software...if and when hp provides an update that works!

If you have a solution to the problem I would still be interested in receiving it. I am extremely grateful to you for your assistance and wish other hp staff displayed the same eagerness to help the user (customer).

Kind regards,

Omar Shamma

Hello Omar,

I can understand your frustration, and am eager to see if we can help resolve this.  You stated that you installed both WiFi and USB, so the scanning issue, was this with a USB install and still connected USB, or is the issue only wirelessly?

One thing that comes to mind is to see if we can change the priority on the Printers EWS (Embedded Web Server).

Find the Printer IP Address on Front Panel of Printer

1. Use the down arrow to highlight "Settings" Press OK

2. Use the down arrow to highlight "Wireless" Press OK

3. Use the down arrow to highlight "Advanced Settings" Press OK

4. Use the down arrow to highlight "IP Summary" Press OK

5. Write down the "IP Address:" example - 192.168.x.x

Open Printer EWS in Mac Browser (Safari)

1. Open Safari, or any browser and type the IP address you copied from Printer

2. Click on the Tab "Network" at the top

3. Click on "Networking" from the list on the left

4. Click on "Bonjour" from the list on the left

5. Locate "Bonjour Highest Priority Service" on the right lower side of screen

6. Use the drop down to change this to "9100 Printing" and click the "Apply" button

7. After the screen that confirms changes, click on "OK"

8. Close out of the Internet Browser

Now Remove and Re-Add the Printer Queue again

1. Open System Preferences

2. Open Printers & Scanners

3. Click to Highlight your HP Printer on the left side

4. Click on the "-" symbol to remove the printer

5. Click the "Delete Printer" button when asked if you are sure

6. Click on the "+" symbol to add printer queue

7. Locate and click on your printer series listed as Bonjour Multifunction under Kind

8. Use the dropdown to the right of "Use:" and change to the HP Printer Series model

9. Click the "Add" button

Now, from this same window - "Printers & Scanners" attempt to scan

1. Click the Scan button near the top and to the right of the "Print" button

2. Ensure the "Default printer:" located near bottom is set to your Printer and NOT last printer used

3. Click the "Open Scanner..." button

4. Click on the "Show Details" Button if the details are not listed (this should initiate a preview scan)

5. Make adjustments and then press the "Scan" button

Please post your results, or if you get any error messages, and where the error occurred.

Thanks,
Double-U-Dee

DOUBLE U-DEE, Thanks so much for the scanning solution script.   We did the script for our HP7500 printer and Macs and it worked great.  However, since installing Yosemite 10.10 on all our Apple devices, we cannot print.  Do you have a script to fix printing?  Thanks so much Carlene Ellis

Dear Double-U-Dee,

You're the Man!

Your solution worked!

It works with the scan from inside the "Printers & Scanners" dialogue box, utilising the Apple scan function (which it did perviously), but more importantly it now has enabled "HP Scan" to work. My problem was getting HP Scan to work.

Thank you my friend!

By rthe way as my profession is a customer expereince marketing consultant, you may wish to forward my feedback on hp support to the relevant parties in hp:

  1. Make ANY support centre, anywhere in the world, serve the customer ANYWHERE in the world the customer may be. My benchmark here is Apple...where ever the customer may be, ANY contact by chat or phone to ANY support number/location will serve him/her provided there is proof of purchase and related warranty coverage.
  2. Where the first line techncial support is unable to resolve an issue, immediately escalate the matter to a senior technical support represnetative in the same session. A wait for that person or call back may be required, but its offered in the same support session. Again, my benchmark is Apple.
  3. Enhance the skills of (or support to) your first line technical support personnel, at least in the Middle East, as they could not resolve the issue.
  4. Make your support website easier to navigate and more extensive with regard to issues and solutions as I tried to find solutions BEFORE contacting support by phone.

Kind regards,

Omar Shamma
