Hi sirmaxwell,

Is there any particular paper that you are having trouble with?  Do you have the same problem with printing and copying?

You might try doing a Hard Reset as described in the following link.  Click Here  Is there any change?

Can you print a Printer Status Report and give me the  Firmware Version  for the printer?  To print the report, press the right arrow on the printer control screen and then Setup / Reports / Printer Status Report.

Also, remember a click on the Kudos star to the left is a quick "Thanks" for a helpful post.

Please select the "Accept as Solution" button on the post that best answers your question.

I appreciate your input ! ___________________________________ _____

How in the heck did you get the 7000 apart?

My 7000 AIO is doing the same thing.  It has ALWAYS had trouble picking up the paper.  Even when new, it did it and I debated whether to take it back to the store.... wish now that I did. When I send a print to it, I can hear it going through some girations (sounds like the ink heads are moving back and fourth) then the rollers will start spinning, then they speed up, run for a few seconds then it stops and the paper button flashes like its out of paper.

There is a set of rollers that drops down on top of the stack and starts turning (its trying to fed the paper in) but there is something that is keeping the rollers from advancing the paper.

I just took my printer apart to see if the gear was off the shaft like MBratic described above.  That is not my problem. The gear is in the correct alingment.  While taking this apart, I damaged the strip encoder (P/N CB981-80003). If you take your apart, be careful and do not damage this. You can see this when you open the top door.  Its a thin strip that runs left to right and secured at each end.  Its just above the round shaft that the cartridge carrier runs on.  I would recommend that after the top is taken off, this part should be taken loose at one end so that its not damaged.

This was the first time I had one of these apart and it is a real pain to get back together. I had the most trouble with the ink drain tubes on the right hand side of the printer.  They are held in place with a coupling under the absorbent pad. Ended up not securing the coupling.

I have owned several HP printers and this is the only one that I have had trouble with. Very frustrating!! About ready to toss this in the trash and go buy an Epson.

The problem with the gears arent only if they aren't aligned. Every time your 2 rollers don't come down, it's a problem with that part of the printer(gears broken, not aligned). For the most of the time you can't even see the problem untill you dismantle the whole printer.

Do your set of rollers drop down before the pickup or not? If they drop, then the cause of the paper not picking up is something else.

Does anyone know how to clean these drop down rollers.

My printer is not picing up the paper even though the rollers drop and spin

I solved my problem.  I threw the printer in the trash where it belongs and I got rid of all of my HP printers.  I will never buy another, and I'm happy with my new Epson printers (5 of them).  I also bought a Canon color laser which is far better than the HPs.  HP will never get my business again.

Garbage - printed 30 pages and it broke - no acknowledgement by HP - lot of runaround - poor quality control
