Hi hjones,
I understand you have an Officejet 8500 wireless that is getting ads on the screen that you'd like to stop. I will certainly do my best to assist you with this.
What ads are you seeing on the screen?
Is your printer connected to a wireless network?
Is your printer plugged directly to a wall outlet? If not, please move it to one.
Is it the Officejet Pro 8500 that you have, or does it say 8500A on the front of your printer?
Once I have this information, I can look further into this issue!

I got rid of the ads; they were all HP ads. The problem was that I had it set on demo mode.
To answer your questions:
Yes, connected to a wireless network.
Yes, connected to a wall outlet.
I have the Officejet Pro 8500, not the 8500A.
My screen stays lit up over 90% of the time. I've been unable to figure out any pattern regarding whether it is lit or dark.
Thanks for the response you already posted. Please do respond further.

Hi hjones,
Kudos to you for figuring out the demo mode on your own 🙂
For the screen being lit up 90% of the time, I'd suggest pressing the Setup button on the front panel of the printer (may look like a small wrench) then use your arrows to navigate to Preferences, press OK and then again use the arrows and navigate to Energy Save Mode. You can try turning that either off or on to see if it makes any difference.
Other then that, there isn't much else to be done with the screen because you are plugged to a wall outlet and there is no further firmware updates for this machine. If you're interested though, I can supply a partial reset that may bring the screen back to life, but will also clear most settings on your printer.
Let me know how this goes!!

How do you set "Energy Save Mode" to save energy (so your screen doesn't stay lit up too long)? Answer: You set "Energy Save Mode" to "Off"!!! That is not logical but is what worked for me. It is backwards. --because what goes off is the screen and what goes on is energy savings. Someone at HP was apparently thinking of the off-ness of the screen when he/she should have been thinking of the on-ness of the energy savings. MissTeriLynn's phrasing nicely allowed for this backwards situation. Many thanks to her!

hjones - you are right that the response gives a clue about something being backwards. It doesn't help me on my 8500A. Energy Save is an automatic setting that reverts to ON if the printer hasn't been used for a while.
First of all, it should not matter if the printer is plugged directly into the wall or is part of a wireless network which mine is. Second, I need to know why this constantly-on screen with the ads has appeared all of a sudden just a couple of days ago! The ads are the HP Product Tour which appears under the Discover Icon. HP had to update my settings. I certainly did not do it. It also turned on APPS which I have no use for.
None of these solutions works. The only good thing that seems to have come out of this unannounce update is that the printer seems to turn on into ready mode quicker and the spooling seems quicker.
HP - I still need a solution. This constant ON negates the Energy Star savings.
