problem with printer head (faulty), printer outside warranty.

First make sure all your ink cartridges have some  ink

 

Then try resetting

 

hold all four of the following buttons while shutting down. Wait for full shutdown. Do this twice.

  

okay

cancel

black

color

 

You will see reset on the printer screen when you accomplish this.

 

It will reset and go into a full scale maintenance mode.

These buttons are not all on the same screen

Black and colour are only on the copy screen

Not sure which is the ok button.

Cancel is a red x but not always alight

This seems to be a common thing, yet standard troubleshooting does not seem to cover it.  My printer is less than two years old, and gets used maybe once a week.  I'm on the verge of giving it to charity and buying a new one -- not HP, of couse.
