@X-23,

Thank you so much! I did see this above, but had used the wrong printer. Is HP working on a fix so that you don't have to use a random different printer driver to make printing on our 7600 work? Thanks!

Hey there @KHenryATL,

Thanks for getting back to me regarding this issue! 🙂

I'm happy to hear that the alternate Deskjet driver I provided resolved this paper size printing issue.

In terms of a 'fix' or 'updated driver', I cannot speculate on what HP intends to do. However, it does appear that that last driver released or updated for this model of printer was Nov. 12, 2014.

Thanks again for reaching out to the HP Support Forums. Take care! 🙂

I have gone through all of the steps oyu suggested.  The new form did not work, and there is no Deskjet 9800 listed in the new drivers section for HP.  I am on using a Windows 10 device

Hey there @twired,

Welcome to the thread! 🙂

The Deskjet 9800 driver is built in to the Windows operating system. Let's try loading the Deskjet 6980 driver.

1. Open your Start menu

2. Open Devices and Printers

3. In the Devices and Printers folder right click on your HP Officejet

4. Left click on Printer Properties

  • NOTE: Always make sure you go to Printer Properties and not Properties. Under Properties you will only have a General and Hardware tab

5. Under the Printer Properties window select the Advanced tab

6. Under the Advanced tab click on New Driver. The 'Add Printer Driver Wizard' box will now open. Click Next.

7. You will now see a list of Manufactures and Printers. Click HP as the Manufacturer on the left. Click the HP Deskjet 6980 as the Printer on the right. Lastly, click Next.

8. Click Finish under the 'Add Printer Driver Wizard' window.

9. You will now be brought back to the Printer Properties window. Please click on the General tab. Rename your printer back to the HP Officejet 7610. Click Apply and OK to save the changes.

Hi X-23:

Unfortunately the driver you recommended is also not on my list of drivers.  I am on a Windows 10 Surface Pro 4.  Can I download a driver from HP website and then load it?  If I do that will my scan options still work properly/

Thanks,

Hey there @twired,

Thanks for getting back to me regarding this issue. 🙂

Because the drivers are built into the Windows Operating System we cannot download them for Windows 10. Under the 'New Driver' window make sure you click the Windows Update option on the bottom right. Once the Updates have completed, the HP printers list should be updated to now contain both the Deskjet 9800 and Deskjet 6980. Both Deskjet drivers will give you the paper size selection you need so choosing either is fine.

If you add the alternate driver using the exact steps I've provided, scanning will not be affected. 🙂

The Windows update was the key.  I can now print Tabloid size.  However, the scan preview function, selected from the computer is now disabled.  I can scan from the printer, but cannot preview and adjust settings from computer as before..  BTW, there are now 2 versions of some of the drivers mentioned, an HP version and Microsoft version.  I installed the 9800 Microsoft version.

Hey there @twired,

I'm very happy to hear that you are now able to print Tabloid size! 🙂

If you updated the driver via the 'New Driver' feature under the Printer Properties the scanning feature should not be affected. It may be the Microsoft version of the driver that is causing the conflict.

  • Can you follow the exact same steps, but choose the HP version of the 9800 driver instead?

Once installed, test scanning and printing to confirm that both are functioning properly.

Fingers crossed! 🙂

I tried both the 6980 and 9800 drivers.  The 6980 would not allow Tabloid.  The 9800 will.  The software that comes with the 7610 printer that allows scanning to be initiated and set up from the desktop no  longer works, but if i right click on the printer and select "start scan" it provides a similar set up screen that I can launch a scan on.  Not ideal, but workable.  Too bad HP will not update the 7610 driver to work with Windows 10, especially since Microsoft is trying to migrate all Win7 and Win 8 computers to Win 10.

Thanks for your help.  I can make this work.

There are some new tools on the HP website for the 7610 printer that will install the correct drivers and allow everything (including scan startup) to work correctly.  Looks like these tools were just made available in 12/15.  Everything works now!
