Off Hook Fax Mode on HP 4630

Hello Meetse,

I understand you're receiving a message "Phone off the hook" using the Officejet 8500. I will do my best to assist you! I noticed you stated that the fax test report fails on no dial tone, but you're getting dial tone when connecting the phone directly to the wall jack.

Follow the steps below to setup a telecomunication device with the HP Fax machine. Source: Troubleshooting 'Phone Off Hook' Front Panel Messages.

1. Disconnect and reconnect the power cord from the printer.
2. Hang up any phones with a lifted handset. Deactivate all telecom devices attached to the HP fax product.
3. Disconnect, one at a time, other phones and devices using the same phone line. Check the HP fax product display after disconnecting each phone or device. If the message clears after disconnecting a phone or device from the line, the problem is with that phone or device.
4. If the Phone off hook disappears, use a two-wired conductor cable between the device & HP fax-device.
5. If the Phone off hook does remain, power cycle the HP fax product again

Did'nt work, I believe it has to be a port issue on the printer or the pc fax is trying to do something even though I don't use that one.  This for me all started when I pushed start fax instead of fax/enter number!  The system (8500) has been reset IAW the advanced options in every language on the system and still "phone off hook".

I think I have solved my Off hook message I had to turn off the Wireless direct so that the printer wasn't trying to access any wifi around this seems to have solved mine. Thank You
