HP Officejet 6600
Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite

My printer was working just fine and now when I try to input the password (yes being careful about Caps ect) it indicates that the password is incorrect.  I have tried entering the Network password many times and each time it says it is wrong even though other devices can access it using the same password.

What is going on?

Thanks Nowifi

Hi @Nowifi , Welcome to the HP Community!

I hope I can help you out with the problem you're having with entering the network password on your Officejet 6600.

My suggestions for you would be to try restoring the network defaults on the printer to clear any network info saved on the printer, restarting the printer, and then running the wireless setup wizard again, selecting your network name and inputting the password again.

  1. On the printer, select Setup, Network Menu, Restore Network Defaults, Yes, restart the printer.
  2. Select Setup, Network Menu, Wireless Setup Wizard, and try connecting again.

I know you mentioned you are connecting the printer to a Mac. If you happen to have a Windows PC or laptop, you can run the Print and Scan Doctor, and check the network information to see your SSID (router information and password), to see if the DR. is picking up a different password. You will be selecting Network, Show Advanced Info, and looking under SSID (Router) for the password. Disregard the VPN Connection highlighted in yellow.

If that is not an option, contact your router provider to check your password/reset it and try connecting the printer again. Make sure your password has no spaces or punctuation. Also check the router settings to see if there could be something else blocking the connection, as it may not even be the password itself.

  1. If using WPA2 security, switch to WPA personal.
  2. Dual broadcast Wireless b/g/n (printer may only connect to g).
  3. Mac filter needs to be turned off.
  4. Firewall settings need to be at there default settings, or set to a lower security.
  5. Multicasting "on".
  6. Following ports need to be un-blocked:

Incoming (UDP) ports : 137, 138, 161, 427
Outgoing (TCP) ports : 137, 139, 427, 9100, 9220, 9500
