So, I pulled the trigger and bought an Office Pro 8730 and pretty much had it set up except I was having some issues with the scan to email function. Called HP support and the lady didn't know much more than me it seemed and spent about an hour on the phone with no luck.

When I would try to click on the Email function on the printer display it would say that this fuction has been locked out by the Administrator which I didn't obviously do...on purpose anyways. So I was playing with a bunch of settings in the browser using the IP address of the printer. Made the mistake of turning all features OFF as I had planning on turning them all back on to see if that would unlock the scan to email feature. In the process, I inadvertently turned off the printer wifi connection and locked out all the features. Now I'm not unable to turn on all the features even thru the browser using the printer IP address because the printer wifi connection is turned off and locked out...Very frustrating.

My question....is there a way to change the printer back to factory settings and do a hard reset?? I've spent most of my day working on this thing and I'm close to sending it back but I'd still like to get it working if at all possible. Thanks again.

Hi @Yielar,

Thanks for showing interest in the HP Support Forums!

I understand the frustration that you're experiencing with your new HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 All-in-One Printer not being able to work with scan to email. I see that in your troubleshooting you disabled the features on the printer in the EWS. I will certainly do my best to help you and please remember to return to this thread and mark 'Accept as Solution', if I have successfully helped you resolve the issue. If you wish to say 'thanks' for my effort to help, click the 'thumbs up' to give me a Kudos.

I see that you disabled features in the EWS and now you're locked out because you disabled the wireless.

Are you still able to access settings from the printer's front panel menu?

If you can, try resetting the network settings, use these steps as a guideline:

Option one:

  1. From the printer control panel, select the Wireless icon.

  2. Settings

  3. Restore Network Defaults

Option two:

  1. From the printer control panel, touch Setup

  2. Network Setup

  3. Restore Network Defaults

At this point, you should be able to run the Wireless Setup Wizard to reconfigure the wireless and not be locked out of the EWS.

If restoring network defaults did not clear the settings, you will need to perform a Semi-Full Reset. I do not have those instructions yet, please contact HP.

Once you have resolved the problem that was created in the EWS, continue on.

This printer offers two ways to "Scan to email". We need to determine which method that you use. It sounds like you're using the Scan to email app.

There are two methods for scanning to email on the device.

On the printer's front panel menu, which option do you press?

  1. Scan menu-> Scan to email (uses local email client)

  2. Apps-> Scan to Email (uses web services)

If you're using Scan-> Scan to email:

See this document for assistance.

If you're using Apps-> Scan to email

  • Please see this Post by my colleague E-roq for restoring web services and re-configuring the Scan to Email app.
  • Starting with the section "Common Remedies".

Contacting HP for service in all countries/regions except Asia Pacific.
First, go to Check your product warranty to check your printer warranty status, and then go to Contact HP Support to find an authorized service dealer or to schedule a repair.
Check Warranty Status: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/wc/public/home
Repair fees might apply for out-of-warranty printers.
What you can do, is use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:
Step 1. Open link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp
Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect
Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"
Step 4. Scroll down and click on HP contact options - click on Get phone number
Case number and phone number appear.

Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you. Good Luck! 🙂

Hi Yielar,

I understand that you encounter scan to email issue. I bet that the function had been disabled, I would like to assist you as possible, i have crafted a few steps to ensure this is working. let me know if below works for your or if you have resolved this issue, do let us know by marking as resolution and thumbs up. Step 1: Move the printer

    1. Move the printer closer to wireless router.
    2. Ensure printer connected to 2.4GHz band wireless router/network.
    3. Keep the printer at a safe distance from household appliances that can potentially interfering with the WIFI signal.
      • Microwave ovens
      • Cordless phones or other devices that use the 2.4GHz band

Step 2: Connecting printer through Embedded Web Server, EWS

    1. Print a network configuration report from the printer and look at the information for IPv4.
    2. Open Internet Explorer or a Chrome web browser and type the IP address into the User Request Line (URL).

Figure 1: An embedded web server page opens.

    1. Click the Settings tab at the top of the page.
    2. Click Security, and then click Administrator Settings
