OfficeJet 4630
Microsoft Windows 8 (32-bit)

My OfficeJet 4630 was displaying that it was offline on the network that it was connected to, however the printer was indeed on and connected to the wireless network.  I went to turn off the printer and turn it back on and the printer turned on started initializing made two mechanical noises and then turned off.  Now it will not turn on, it does the same thing, starts initializing makes the same two noises and turns off.   The printer has an internal power module that from what I can tell can not be replaced(there are no screws around or withing the power module.  I have tried plugging it directly into a wall outlet as well as letting it sit for 60 seconds or longer and plugging it directly into the wall.  I have not tried using a different power cord because I dont have one.  Am I correct to assume I need to try a different cord and or my power module is shot and cannot be replaced? Meaning I need a new Printer or am I missing some other potenial issue?

Hi @ep108304,

I understand your HP OfficeJet printer turns on and makes noises and turns off. Don't worry as I have a few steps to help you get through this concern,

Please make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

Please perform a Hard reset on the printer.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Next thing, I would suggest here is to check for the latest firmware update if available for your printer, using this link: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/oj4630/OJ4630_R1543A.exe

If you are still having issues then check your private messages for some other steps to try. I am sending you a private message with the instruction on performing an advanced reset on the printer.

Please check your Private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile,

Next, to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

I hope this helps resolve this issue completely,

Unfortunatley none of your suggestions worked.  The printer doesn't stay on long enough for the reset.   Also removing the power cord, waiting a few minutes did not work either.  The printer will be soon become part of an office space parody.
