I've tested printing on iOS, Android 6 and on Mac OS X 10.11

When printing on A4 there is no isssues. When printing on 4x6 in. the last 5/6 of the page comes out fuzzy. This is the same when copying or printing from a file.

The Print Quality Diagnostics page does not allow the option to print directly to 4x6 inch and gives the error:

"

Printer reports do not support 4x6 in..

Load a supported size of paper in the tray to continue.

Touch "?" to view the supported paper sizes

"

Is it a mechanical issue and I need to return this printer?

Hello, @ohthatdude - Hope you are well 🙂

Thanks for reaching out! I’d like to be of your assistance!

I see that you are facing issues while printing and copying on 4*6 paper using the Officejet printer. Also, the test page is programmed to print on regular paper, hence the error while trying to print on 4*6.

Let’s try performing a power drain on the printer and then change the copy setting to try and make a good copy. Here are the steps:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Now, try making a copy using the 4*6 paper on your printer. Go to http://hp.care/2qG4265 and follow steps 3 & 4 to change the copy settings and then make a copy. If the copy comes out good, then try making a print from your phone or PC. Let me know that goes.

Thanks, I will watch for your reply!

Good luck 🙂

Hi,

After following these steps, the issue still occurs even when copying. I'm not too sure if you saw it the first time, but I did say that the issue is still there even when copying.

The printer has always been plugged directly into the wall.

Hello, @ohthatdude

I did notice that you are getting issues while copying as well from your first post. But the above instructions should have helped you fix the issues if the issues are related with any paper settings on your printer.

If possible, please try using a different photo paper and try printing. Since the issue only occurs while using the 4*6 photo paper, it could be an issue with the printing media as well. Hence, try using an alternate media and see if that helps!

Thanks, I'll watch for your reply!

Cheers 🙂

I've tried other 4x6 paper and tried reorientating. The issue remains evident.

@ohthatdude

It looks like you were interacting with @Dvortex, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out,

I'm the Riddle_Decipher & I'm at your service.

It's an unpleasant task, however, It needs to be done the workarounds have been attempted and as they haven't worked for you,

Considering this is how the printer is designed:

"3mm on the edges will be blur as it is not true borderless",

I've consulted an expert on printers for the same and it looks like this is the end of the line for us.

You may want to try with alternate paper sizes and check if they work differently.

Keep me posted 😉

I'm not trying for borderless. I'm trying for typical 4x6 prints.

As I say, it's the final inch or so. To give you an idea, https://twitter.com/ohthatdude/status/860629680398807040/photo/1 shows a document intended to test sharpness alongside with the printout which shows increasing "fuzziness" from the bottom 3/5+ of the page or so.

Are we to assume that we just need to accept this as a permanent issue for 4x6 prints?

@ohthatdude

Thank you for replying,

I understand your concern and I'm afraid you are right as this is a design limitation we'll need to live with.

That said, Feel free to post your query for any other assistance as well,

It's been a pleasure interacting with you and I hope you have a good day ahead.

Excellent. How can I get a refund for both the printer and the 4x6 paper I've wasted attempting to print on?

Additionally, when can the public expect a product description update to warn everybody about this limitation? Ie: Only able to print to single size paper?

One last thing, does HP test their products before they're sold? Given that the printer certainly gives the option to print on such media it is weird that a customer is discovering this for you. There was nothing to suggest that such prints is an unreasonable expectation and nothing to protect us from wasting time and money.
