When printing duplex (Print on Both Sides - flip over), the pages are not aligned. Page 1 printing starts one row higher than page 2 printing. I have tried using Excel, Word, and Adobe Reader to verify that it is not the application nor it's print settings. Additionally, I have printed the same files to a Ricoh Offico printer at my corporate office and there are no alignment problems with any of them.
I called customer service one Saturday morning and the representative had me installing various drivers from different HP printers to try to resolve the issue, but it was not resolved. He also had me power down, remove power cord for several minutes and then power back up.
Is this a common issue with HP Inkjet Printers?
I have read here how owners of other models have had their units repaired or have had new duplexers installed but without resolution. I like most everything else about this printer and would really prefer to solve the issue rather than return it for a refund. If anyone knows how to resolve this, your help would be appreciated.
Thank you

Hi! @imdcareys, Thanks for stopping by HP forums!
I understand that you have alignment issues with your printer.
Don't worry I will try to help you out.
Does it shift the margins when you make a multiple page copy?
Kudos to you for trying out the steps before reaching out to us.
On the printer control panel, swipe the display to scroll to Setup () and touch it
Swipe the display to scroll then touch Tools.
Touch Align Printhead.
Try reseating the print head and check if it helps.
Refer this article to know how to troubleshoot print head issues.
Hope to hear from you soon!
Have a great day ahead! 🙂

Yes, I have done both Align Printhead and Reseated the Printhead.
If I print single pages of a multiple page document, they all start printing at the same vertical distance from the top edge of the paper. It is only double-sided printing that is not vertically aligned.
Thank you Mr. Robot

@imdcareys, Thanks for your generous response and time.
Kudos to you for trying out the steps.
Try making a two-sided copy on your printer and let me know the results.
Also, try uninstalling the printer software from the root level and install the latest driver for your printer.
1. Navigate to Start >Type Devices and Printers in the Search > Select it from the results
2. Highlight your printer object and Right Click
3. Choose Remove Device
4. Highlight something else from the list
5. Click the Print Server Properties button from the toolbar
6. Select the Drivers Tab
7. Highlight the appropriate print driver
8. Click Remove
9. Check the Remove Driver and Driver Package option when prompted
10. Click OK
Please install the printer software using this link.
Let me if this works!
Cheers! 🙂

f you would please review my initial question, you'll see that these steps have already been taken.
The file you asked me to download (which I did) is the same exact one the person on the phone had me download and go through these steps. The OJ8720_Full_WebPack_1881.exe filesize is 157 MB and is still version 1.4.1926.0.
My question there was whether anyone knows how to fix it. I am confused by you taking me back through these steps again. If you keep doing what you've always done, you'll keep getting what you've always gotten.
Thank you,
Carey

Hi! @imdcareys, Thanks for stopping by HP forums!
Have you tried printing from a different application? Does the issue persist?
Please try the steps recommended below.
Go to Start => Device and Printers => then click on the button labeled "Add Printer" on the top left corner of the device window.
Click the button "Add Local Printer" (Choose this option if you don't know your setup)
Select the radio button "Use an existing port"
On the drop-down list select the option eg CN115130TP05JW but use the correct name for YOUR PRINTER port which is the serial number for your printer (do not use the fax entry)
Now in the Manufacture list to the left select "HP"
On the Printer list to the right select "HP Deskjet990c series (HP)"
After the driver installs go into the "Device and Printers" window and right click the newly added "HP Deskjet 990c series" and select "Printer Properties" on the drop-down list.
Go to the "Advanced" tab, and in drop list next to the "Driver" label select "HP Deskjet 990c series".
Click the "Apply" button - the configuration window should change it's shaped a little.
10. In the HP Deskjet 990c Properties window click on the "Device Settings" tab on the top of the window.
11. In the list of settings look for "Duplex Unit (for 2-sided printing)" and select it.
12. Once highlighted select from the drop-down list "Installed";
13. Once finished press Apply
14. Now go into whatever you were using to print the documents and select the "HP Deskjet 990c" as your printer. Enable Duplex printing and you should see the pages print out correctly.
Let me know if this helps!
Have a great day ahead! 🙂

I could not reproduce what you asked:
1) My printer port has no serial number. It has: WSD-ef6f7587-8093-41b0-86d3-d9506b2179ef.006b (WSD Port)
2) The lowest numbered Deskjet is "HP Deskjet 1000 J110 series Class Driver. There is no "HP Deskjet990c series (HP)"
As I had mentioned in my first post: "I called customer service one Saturday morning and the representative had me installing various drivers from different HP printers to try to resolve the issue, but it was not resolved."
I am willing to try a different one if you have another suggestion. If you have Excel 2016 and access to an HP OfficeJet Pro 8720, maybe I could let you try printing my file in duplex and see how it lines up for you?
Thanks,
Carey

@imdcareys, It's been great to hear from you again.
I appreciate your efforts for trying out the steps.
The serial number that I provided was just an example you have to select your printer from the drop-down list or type the name of your printer.
As you mentioned you mentioned you don't have an option of 990c, In the same window you will get an option to check for windows update click on it and you should get an option to select 990c.
Select 990c and continue with the rest of the steps.
Let me know how it goes!
Have a great day ahead! 🙂
