I re-installed the full drivers package for my printer, but my computer and the printer still can't communicate. The computer is wired to router via ethernet and the printer is connected to router via wireless. HP Doctor shows two separate networks (though we only have one). I can't use HP Printer Update because the computer doesn't find the printer. And I can't use other HP printer applications for the same reason. I can print, but would really like this resolved. I just tried setting the printer to default settings and then re-connected it to the router network, but it didn't correct the problem.

Hello, @MamaBRO – Hope you are well 🙂
Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums! I would like to be of your assistance with your printer issue 🙂
I understand that you are facing issues with the printer communicating with the PC over the network. Going through your post, you mentioned that you are able to print to the printer. How is that possible when the printer is not communicating over the network? Please elaborate the scenario if possible.
Alternatively, I would like to test the connection via the following step:
- Obtain the printer IP address of the printer by touching the wireless icon on the printer control panel.
- Now open a web browser on your computer and then enter this IP address in the address bar.
- Check whether the printer page (Printer EWS) is opening or not.
Thanks, I look forward to hearing back from you!
Good luck 🙂

Hi, Dvortex
Thank you for your response and effort to help. When I say that the computer is not communicating with the printer, I am quoting from HP Print and Scan Doctor when I try to use it. It can see the printer, but then when it tries to connect and communicate from that program, it can't. It says that my computer and the printer are on two separate networks... but we only have one network ... so I don't get it either. Also HP Support Assistant can't even identify if a printer is even connected. And when I tried to update the firmware, the HP Update Installer couldn't see what type printer I have. BUT if I want to print from the computer, it works fine! I do not understand either!! 😜
I did what you said and, yes, the Printer EWS does open.=o)
Thanks for your help.

Hello @MamaBRO
Thanks for the reply & appreciate your efforts 🙂
Let's try a network power drain and then clean install the printer to fix this issue. Check the steps below:
- Turn off all the devices connected on your network including the PC, Smartphones, printer, modem (if present) and router. Make sure all the devices in the network are turned off / unplugged.
- Wait for 2-3 minutes.
- Now turn on the modem if present. Wait till all the lights are steady and idle.
- Then turn on the router. Again wait for a couple of minutes so that the lights are all steady.
- Then turn on the printer and other devices.
Once done, now perform a clean install of the printer software. Follow the below-mentioned steps:
· First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
· Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them.
· Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
· Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
· Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
· Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
· Restart your computer.
· Now click http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL49512/mp-120050-6/OJ4630_Basicx64_198.exe to install the software.
· In the connection type window, select Wireless and proceed with the On-Screen instructions.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.
Good luck 🙂

I did the whole clean install like you said. When I was re-installing the printer with the printer's IP address, once again it said that my computer and the printer were on networks. I just went ahead and installed it that way. HP Printer Assistant now recognizes my printer, but HP Print and Scan Doctor still does not.

I was able to print before. The problem ongoing is the HP apps do not recognize or communicate with my printer, as in HP Print and Scan Doctor. See previous postings. Doesn't seem like anyone has any solutions on that that work. But thank you so much for all your input. I do appreciate it.

Hey@MamaBRO,
Thanks for the response.
Have you tried downloading the latest HP Print scan doctor app and checked if that worked?
If not, then try downloading the app from the link below and check if that detects the printer and its issues.
