My two-week old Officejet 5740 began automatically canceling print jobs after printing the upper part of a grocery coupon image equivalent to 5 lines of text. No issues printing similar grocery coupon images just one minute before the problem began.
After I sent the first print job from the desktop to the AIO (All-in-One), a pop-up message appeared stating that there was a communication problem between the AIO and the computer, but it disappeared almost immediately and printing began. I noticed that it took 5 minutes to print one page with 4 coupon images, which had not been the case when printing similar items a few days earlier. I printed a total of 3 pages of coupon images before the automatic canceling of print jobs problem appeared.
The HP Print and Scan Doctor tool found everything functioning correctly.
The AIO is connected by USB cord to a Dell Dimension 2400 desktop computer running Windows XP (32-bit) Professional SP3. The AIO installation software was downloaded directly from the HP website because it included the latest updates; the installation CD that came with the AIO was NOT used.
Since I send only one print job at a time, wait until it has finished printing, and then send a second print job, there is always only one print job (current one) in the queue.
This is my first HP AIO (and HP product), and maybe also my last, if I cannot get this problem solved before the deadline in two weeks for returning it to the store for a full refund.

Hi @Erislandy,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that your HP Officejet 5740 Cancels Print Jobs Automatically on Windows XP. I am sorry to hear this, but happy to help!
I would suggest to go through the steps in this guide, Print Jobs from Your HP Printer are Stuck in the Print Queue (Windows), and let me know what happens! (Even though the guide title may not match your issue, I believe the solutions will help.)
Best of luck!

The last time this problem occurred on 03-25-15, I turned off the computer and the AIO overnight. On the following day the AIO worked correctly and continued to do so until 05-10-15. Since it functioned without problems for 1.5 months, I kept it instead of returning it to the store, so I am now past the store's return deadline and stuck with an unreliable AIO.
The problem this time appears to be slightly different than the last time, as it is after the upper 3/4" of a page prints that the message "canceling printing" appears on the AIO's screen, with the wheel going around endlessly until I manually cancel the job from the computer, which after a few minutes returns the AIO screen to its regular start menu. This time the problem appeared after printing 2 pages, while the last time it appeared after printing 3 pages.
This time also, the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool found everything functioning correctly. Additionally, I tested the steps in the support document for which you provided a link on 03-26-15, but none solved the problem.
Do you know the cause of this specific problem and a custom solution for it?

Hi Erislandy,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
Definitely odd that was working and now it is not printing again. However, I would try the following steps:
Try a hard reset, by going to this post, How to perform a Hard Reset, by @Rich1. It is important that the power cable is plugged directly into the wall outlet, and not a surge protector. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.
Then, I would make sure the printer's firmware is up-to-date. Getting the Latest Firmware and Product Updates.
I would also, make sure the USB printer cable is not loose on either end by unplugging it and plugging it back in.
If this does not solve the issue, please call our phone support at 800-474-6836 for further assistance. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region. Country-language selector.
Hope this is helpful!

I'm having this same problem with a MacBook Pro (2015). Just purchased my printer in August and has worked perfectly until tonight. Trying to print a 15-page document. The printer prints pages 15, 14, 13 and then on page 12 it cancels the job everytime. I've tried just printing 1-12 but no such luck. It cancels immediately. Please help. This is so frustrating.
It prints other documents just fine. But I've only since printing single-page documents. I don't know what to do.

Hi zehnkatie,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
What version of the Mac OS X Operating System are you running? If you do not know the Operating System you are using, please visit this website. Whatsmyos.
Do you have the same type of printer? if not, what type of printer do you have? To find your printer's Product/Model Number follow instructions in this link. Finding Your HP Product Model Number.
How is the printer connected? Wireless, Ethernet, or USB?
In the meantime, please try the following steps:
- Make sure the printer is idle, not making any sounds, before continuing.
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait at least 15 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
- Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
- If the printer does not turn on by itself, press the Power button (
) to turn it on.
- Try printing again.
- If the printer prints, you can stop troubleshooting.
- Continue troubleshooting if the errors persist.
CAUTION:Resetting the Print System deletes all devices in the Printers & Scanners queue. This includes both HP and non-HP devices.
- Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click Reset printing system....
- Click Reset in the confirmation window.
- Enter an administrator user name and password, and then click OK.
- Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list.
- Add your printer to the list again as was done previously.
- Try printing again.
- If the printer prints, you can stop troubleshooting.
- Continue troubleshooting if the errors persist.

Hey,
I'm having the SAME problem, but I have a Mac running OS X 10.11.3 - I can find very little help regarding use of this product with a mac. Please advise. I will return this product today if I can't get it to print soon.
