My HP Officejet 6000 E609n printer has started printing a test page at power up and will also print the same test page at any time during usage. The test page takes app 2 minutes to print. Otherwise the printer performs just fine.
Using Windows 7 the printer will print a "Windows Printer Test Page" OK. Nothing to my knowledge was changed that caused the printer change.
I do not get any error massages and the printer does not require an upgrade. (ran troubleshoot program)
I contacted Tech Support and he could not suggest a fix. What do I need to do to stop the test page printing?

Hi T_E_H,
Run the alignment again on the printer, and let me know if it quits printing the page all the time?
Realign the printer
- Load plain white paper in the product.
- On the product control panel, press and hold the Power button (
).
- While holding the Power button (
), press the Resume button (
) three times, and then release the Power button (

- Load plain white paper in the product.
- Open HP Solution Center:
- Windows XP: Click Start , click All Programs , click HP , and then click HP Solution Center .
- Windows Vista: Click the Windows icon (
), click All Programs , click HP , and then click HP Solution Center .
- HP Solution Center opens in a new window.
- In HP Solution Center, click Settings (
).
- In the Print Settings section, click Printer Toolbox . The printer Toolbox opens in a new window.
- Click the Device Services tab.
- Click Align the Print Cartridges (
).
- Click Print Page . The product prints an alignment page.
- Recycle or discard the test page.

Hi Linda,
If the printer is not properly aligned this can cause the printer to try and align itself each time you turn it on. Run the steps I provided to align the prnter, and let me know if you continue to have the issue?

I have printed the alignment page as described above, but the printer keeps printing alignment pages. The printer prints a test page every single time the power strip it's plugged into is turned on. I have tried printing alignment pages from the HP solution center and from the printer itself. I've tried unplugging the printer, waiting, and plugging it back in. I've tried looking for any software updates. I've also tried replacing the color print cartridges, which were dry; I rarely print in color. How can I get it to stop printing test pages?

Hi CBG123,
Is the printer connected directly to a wall outlet?
Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector
In this document you will find,
This is not limited to LaserJets, the level of current passing through the UPS, surge protector, or power strip fluctuates slightly, causing an inadequate supply of power to any printer.
Look forward to hearing back from you.

Hi CBG123,
I am sorry to hear you are still experiencing this issue. When the printer prints the alignment page does it pass the alignment test of fail? If it is failing, it could be continuing to print because the cartridge are not calibrated for best print quality. If this is the case try Troubleshooting Print Quality Issues even if you don't feel like you are having a quality issue.
If the alignment test t is passing then the printer may simply not remember that it has done the test already hence my suspicion of the power issue. When the printer is deprived of the appropriate amount of voltage it requires it doesn't retain memory such as the fact that it already printed an alignment and doesn't need to print another one.
Since you already tried connecting to a wall outlet and the issue still occurs, do you maybe have another power cable from another printer that might be compatible with your Officejet 6000 E609n, maybe the power module is no longer functioning properly.
-
Power supply : Universal power adapter (external)
-
Power requirements :
-
Input voltage : 100 to 240 VAC (± 10%), 50/60 Hz (± 3Hz)
-
Output voltage : 32 Vdc at 1560 mA
-
-
Power consumption : 29.6 watts printing (Fast Draft Mode)
Let me know if the alignment is passing or failing and I will see what other causes and solutions I can find.

Thank you for replying again.
I went to the linked Troubleshooting Print Quality Issues page, and reinstalled the software and drivers. The printer still prints a test page when it's turned on.
There isn't any problem with actual print quality, so I don't know that the other steps on that page would be helpful.
I don't think we have a compatible spare cable here; this is the only printer of its kind here.
Much time and ink have already been spent on this problem. Maybe I'm just going to have to keep on cancelling the test page every time the printer is turned on?

Hi CBG123,
The only other thing I can think of is maybe calling tech support again. If the printer is out of warranty maybe they could offer you a newer model at a discounted trade in cost.
Best of luck, sorry I have nothing else to suggest.
