After I installed my new Officejet 6000 on my wired home network, I logged into it and configured a static IP address. Unfortunately, I erred and entered an address not on my network. I need to reset the printer to its factory default configuration, but I cannot find any information about how to do that from the front panel. The procedure in the user manual "to reset the device's network settings" does not clear the static IP address. Help!!

Think I probably solved the problem myself. I temporarily changed my local network address via my router to the printer's erroneous address, then logged into the printer and corrected the static ip address. Then I went back and changed my LAN address to its normal one via the router. I should now be able to reinstall the Officejet 6000.

To restore the network configuration on the Officejet 6000:

  1. Press and hold  the Network /  Wireless button (depends on the exact model)
  2. Now press the Resume button three times
  3. Finally, release Network /  Wireless button.

The Power light should blink for a few seconds. After the Power light stops blinking and is on solid, the printer's network configuration should be restored to the factory settings.

I also read that in the current user manual but IT DOESNT WORK. The only work around is to connect to the printer using a device that is set up on the printer's current IP range and subnet and go to the address from the page the printer prints you get when you press the network button on the printer.

I have never understood why you cannot change the printers IP address via software when the printer is connected via USB - personally I think this is very shoddy coming from HP.

This doesn't work. Does anyone have an actual way to reset the nic on a Officejet6000?

DONT SAY HOLD NETWORK AND PRESS RESUME 3X THEN RLS NETWORK BUTTON. THAT DOESNT WORK - IT JUST PRINTS OUT A CONFIG PAGE.

Apparently they are robots and only know how to read from a manual instead of thinking for themselves. I am having some issues too and nothing here is giving me an answer either...

Good luck to ya.... Maybe we should go back to pen and paper....

I just did a factory reset that worked.  Press and hold the Power button, press Network button, (on some models, press the Wireless button ), two times, then press the Cancel button three times, and release the Power button.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I was going nuts trying to reset my HP 6000 wireless to connect to a new AT&T router. It got stuck on IP address 169.354.173.152, which is nothing like my old or new wireless network. Why cannot HP provide this information anywhere? For that matter, where did you find it out? The manual is flat-out wrong, as many people have been poining out for 4 years!

For what it is worth.... In my case I held the wireless button while I pressed the power button. The power light flashed a few times. This reset all the wireless parameters to zeros. I thought I had really wrecked it, but, I tried to reinstall wireless and viola, it worked fine.

Hope it works for you
