I purchased an Officejet 8610 and some HP premium photo paper. The printer would feed plain paper just fine but refused to feed HP photo paper. After speaking to an HP rep over the phone, I exchanged it for another one. Same result.
Suggestions?

Hello @jmharrell , and welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're having issues with photo paper. I would like to help!
To start, I have a couple of steps I'd like to go through.
First, I'd recommend checking out this document to ensure there were no missed steps:
Print Photos Saved on Your Computer
Second, I'd recommend following the steps in this document:
An 'Out of Paper' Message Displays and the Printer Does Not Pick Up Paper
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

I just received a new printer and it will not feed Kodak premium photo paper, it keeps not taking it up. I have some HP photo printer paper that works fine but not the same quality of paper. Any suggestions?

I have tried all of the suggestions on the forum.
HP has sent me a replacement printer.
I have specifically gotten HP photo paper.
Nothing works.
Not sending 50 pages through via copy.
Not cleaning the rollers (even on the replacement).
Not the 2 hours of fiddling with settings that HP did via Chat and RemoteAccess.
Does anyone have any other ideas?
Like maybe getting an Epson or some other printer?
Apparently, from all of the posts on this same problem, HP can't design a good paper feed mechanism that will handle photo paper as well as regular 20 lb bond.
Completely exasperated and very dissatisfied!!!

My HP 8610 gave the same message. What I did to get the 8610 to pick up the 4x6 photo paper was set the PAPER SIZE to 4x6in, set the PAPER TYPE to HP Everyday Photo Paper Glossy, and set the PHOTO SIZE to full page. That made it pick up and print the photo.

Fixed!!!! I finally figured it out after I tried everything, putting more paper in the tray, reloading the paper multiple times, trying to print one photo at a time instead of 2 5x7's on the page, etc. nothing worked.
When I selected Printing Preferences / Paper Type: "Other Photo Papers" it worked just fine.
My photo paper was thick, and labeled "Premium Glossy Photo Paper" from Epson. It is more than a few years old, but its in the original packaging and in great shape. Specs were 68 lbs/ream - 10.4 mil - 97% opacity - 92 ISO brightness.
I guess if you select HP premium photo paper, the printer expects you to call India for endless, worthless conversations with overseas support idiots hired by Carly Fiorina or Meg Whitman who have no idea what they are doing. If you have "other" paper products, maybe they figure you're not so stupid after all.
