Officejet pro 7740
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought, 2017-03-01, my Officejet pro 7740 at a special price in Quebec Canada with to following assertion from HP Canada Site that this printer is eligible to INSTANTINK SERVICE as my already bougth with my Officejet pro 8720 printer. The INSTANTINK STAMP is printed in front of the (INSTANTINK) OFFICEJET PRO 7740 WIDE FORMAT PRINTER.

Since I had a small doubt about it, I chat to HP support and I got the answer that no wide format printer is eligible to that service !

The new 7740 has been bought to have access to th 11x17 scanner and the 11x17 format as I am a graphist and artist (french teacher in computers retired from High School).

Is the Ink service annoucement true for the officejet7740 as a new printer or just a mistake on the site of HP Canada ?

What else can I do with the printer that is still in the box ?

Thank you very much for answering, Claude

Hello @CB_Qc,

Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Forums!

I understand and you're wondering whether your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer is capable of Instant Ink. I would be happy to help you and please remember to return to this thread and mark 'Accept as Solution', if I have successfully helped you resolve the issue. If you wish to say 'thanks' for my effort to help, click the 'thumbs up' to give me a Kudos.

I checked the HP Shopping Canadian Store here and it doesn't say anywhere on the site that it is compatible. I can confirm that this printer is not compatible with Instant Ink, sorry for the confusion. They must have put that in your box by accident.

Have a great day! 🙂

Sorry to reply the contrary : Look at

Printers/technology/inkjet  !!!

Go down to the 11th printer on that page and you will find the RED INSTANTINK stamp in front of the HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer link going to your page.

Thank you for your answer, I will stay with my 7740 printer to use it as a 11x17 scanner and few graphics pages.

I had the possibility  to split a job of 2000 recto-verso brochures (8 1/2x11) on both printers to get it done quicker, having both printers on 2 (300 pages) Instantink packages and paying extras 1,25$ ... about 150$ or more, but it seems HP does not understand that both printer are the same machines...

Just put an extra tariff where a 11x17 page is equal to 2 letter pages on a 7740 Instantink contract !

I pay for extra copies on the 8720, i agree to pay twice the price for every 11x17 page I print and the normal price for the letter format on the 7740.

Why do you want me to buy 952XL on Ebay or Amazon for  cheap genuine HP cartridges to put on my 7740  instead of selling me 2 instantink package at HP Instantink service ??

Totally inconsistant marketing decision for identical machines . . . .

Hello @CB_Qc,

Thanks for getting back to me. 🙂

I have checked and it doesn't show what you're referring to, regardless this printer is not compatible. I see no misinformation in the product details or specializations where it says that it is compatible with Instant Ink. I'm sorry for the confusion and I wish you well with your future endeavors. 🙂

Have a great day!
