LaserjetPro P1102W
iOS
My printer's Ready light is *blinking* Green even when a print job is finished/absent.

As if it thinks there is a print job in progress.

In this state it is unreceptive to wireless print jobs.

If I press cancel (X button) then it returns to steady green.

A while later, it's flashing again.

X key puts it back again.

Nobody is printing ANYTHING to make this green light flash.

Anyone else come across this?

(All kinds of basic troubleshooting have been done recently. The printer setup, network, firmware, bonjour setup, etc. are all known to be good.)

Hi @BrianCoat

I understand you have already tried troubleshooting your Laserjet P1102w, and have identified that when you press the cancel button the printer will become ideal, otherwise the printer's attention light blinks and the printer will not respond to a print command. Although I am not sure what is causing the issue, I would be happy to help you figure it out. The first thing I would have checked is the Firmware, but I can see you already did that.

Do you have the printer connected directly to a wall outlet or is it in a surge protector or power bar? Even if you have been using a surge protector/power bar all this time and you feel it is not the cause, please connect it to a wall outlet just so we can eliminate the power source as the root cause.   Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.

You mention checking the network, have you tried setting a static IP? If not, this document might help: HP Printers - Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection.

If one of my recommendations resolves the issue, please click the Accept as Solution button below so others can see your post is solved. If however you require additional assistance, please do not hesitate to let me know. Thanks.

Thanks. These are all basic trouble shooting steps and I have checked/done them all.

There is no surge protector, IP address already static, firmware is current level.

Apart from this issue, everything works OK -  on Windows, OSX and IOS (Bonjour & HP app), on my network and via direct wifi link.

But this issue means that the printer often needs clearing or resetting before you can print to it, so it is a big problem.

If you have any knowledge of the issue, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Thanks for getting back to me. Let's power cycle everything first. Let's leave the router on and unplug the power cable (NOTE: Do not reset the router.), and then do the same with the printer, and shut down the computer. After a full minute, plug the router back in, wait for it to fully power up, then plug the printer back in and wait for the wireless light to become solid. Once both the router and printer are on, go ahead and turn the computer back on. Doing this will refresh the network connection.

If you are still having issue then restore the printer defaults and reconfigure the network again.

Turn the printer off, hold down the wireless button and cancel (x button) while turning the printer back on and don't release the two buttons until the printer stops making noise.

Print out a configuration report and make sure the SSID and IP address are cleared.
(hold down the x button and when the printer makes a noise let go)

Please let me know if setting the printer up again resolves the issue. Thanks.

 I tried resetting everything.

No Joy.

I tried the two-buttons-together at power up thing.

This seems to makethe printer forget the network etc.

This is a nightmare.

It took me ages to get installed the first time and I expect it's going to take me ages to get it going again.

The problem is the install software, which is lousy/defective.

I downloaded the latest full solution software.

I installed it - it also adds a load of bloatware.

I can istall the printer printing from USB

But when I try to reinstall the wifi setup, it asks my to connect the USB cable and says it is waiting for me to do so, it thinks its unconnected even though I only just printed over it.

I had a wireless printing issue before but following this two buttons at once routine I have no wireless printer and no means to reestablish it.

Im not going to waste 2 hours of my life talking to someone in Mumbai reading from a menu - please could you tell be what I need to do to

1) Reconnect printer to wireless network

2) Remove ALL the bHP loatware and their associated files and registry entries from my PC

After that, I'll be back to where I was this morning - and who knows, my issue might be fixed but I doubt it.

Thanks.

Well I got it reinstalled (you have to remove any USB-based printer installation before it can see the USB cable).

Alll theprinter settings are gone.

... and my Bonjour print delay (5 mins+) is back. This is a problem I had before but has been fixed for weeks.

This is turning into a nightmare ...

How do i get back to where I was? This IOS print delay issue is far worse than the issue you were advising me on.

I remember they had me set the IP to static, turn off IPV6 and set the bonjour name to something simple and non-default but apart from that I cannot remember. What about DNS. Should I make that 8.8.8.8?

I imagine this has become frustrating for you, but I appreciate your perseverance.

Please use the steps below to set the network configuration:

  • Type the Printer's IP address into your web browser's address bar, to access the printer's Embedded Web Server.
  • Click on the Networking tab.
  • Select IPv4 Configuration on the left side of the window.
  • Enter the values from the Configuration Page.
  • On the left side of the window, select Network Configuration and enter the following:
  • Preferred DNS Address: 209.244.0.3
  • Alternate DNS Address:209.244.0.4
  • Apply the settings.

Please let me know if this helps get you back on track. Thanks.
