I have cleaned paper feed, reset the cartridges, unplugged and ran with no paper in it. All with no difference in sound.
It makes this awful noise when getting ready to print and then it prints fine. No issues with printing, just this awful noise and no warnings coming up in printer. What to do? Thanks

Hi @jla4,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that your HP Photosmart c4785 printer is making a loud griding noise. I am happy to look into this for you!
I would recommend to go through this guide, 'Out of Paper' Error Message and the Printer Does Not Pick Up or Feed Paper, and watch this video:
As this will show you how to clean the printer's rollers.
Afterwards, I would then go through this guide, A 'Paper Jam' Message Displays for HP Photosmart C4600 and C4700 All-in-One Printer Series, and watch this video:
Just to verify there is no paper getting in the way of anything. If this does not resolve your issue, then most likely there is a hardware malfunction with the printer itself, probably a broken part that is loose, that you might not be able to see. If that is the case, I would then consider upgrading the printer. If you wish to do so, please call our phone support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region. Country-language selector.
Hope this information is helpful, and have a great day!
