Hi, I have the problem that on my photosmart 6510 it says that wireless is connected and works perfectly. But then when I disconnect the USB of the printer and my laptop, it says printer is offline when I try to print wirelessly. So then I tried your way of solving this problem:

"If you open System Preferences -- Print & Scan, does the printer have a host name in brackets behind the printer name (i.e. :HP Photosmart 6510 All-in-One [G53D42]) ?

If not, then the printer in the queue is for a USB connection, and all you need to do is:
1. Remove the USB listing
2. Click the "+" towards the bottom of the list (the white box where the printer was listed)
3. Find your 6510 (connection type should be Bonjour)
4. Click to highlight your printer, and then click Add."

When I went it only says Photosmart 6510 in Print& Scan, so I followed your steps but then after I remove the USB listing and try to add again, there is not one with Bonjour connection, I can only add back my printer after I connect the USB again so then the printer would be found. So after that I also tried printing out wireless network test results from my printer, and under Bonjour it says Enabled and It also has a service name Photosmart 6510 series (FEA3E6), so what should I do to make wireless printer work? Thank you.

Try adding the printer using the IP method.

When you go to add the wireless printer (clicking the "+" in Print & Scan) click the IP tab at the top of the window.

Enter the IP address (from the configuration page you already printed out) and wait for the bottom-most box to populate your printer name.

Click Add to add your printer.

Please let me know if this works, or if you run into difficulty.

Thanks! :generic:

Im at a complete loss. I have installed the latest drivers etc and un-installed and re-installed until im am blue int the face still the same results.

Hi all,

First - I find it really interesting that the HP techs will not address the intermittent disconnection issue. This is a HUGE problem that many of us are having, there should be some documentation on this or a driver update.

now to business!

My printer was confirming connection and my computer was online as well but couldn't find the printer. It was working after several hours of setup a few days ago, but today it's not connecting again.

My thought is that the issue is with the software disc. It was likely primarily tuned to Windows rather than Mac and I don't believe the connection between the disc and macOS is sound. Here's what I did, let's see if my connection will stick:

1) Uninstalled the software

2) Disconnected and reconnected the printer's wireless connection

3) Opened up my Printer setup in the Mac Preferences

4) The old printer setup was there, I deleted that

5) Clicked the + to add a new one via IP

6) Chose the HP connection, entered in the IP that the printer was connected to, clicked save

7) My mac connected and downloaded a package

Now, it still wasn't working at this point, so I opened the install disc again and ran the install.

It's currently working properly! I hope it sticks because this is was a ridiculous amount of set up. Honestly, if I had known this prior to purchase, I would not have purchased this model, perhaps not even an HP.

Nothing says "Connection type" in the Print & Scan menu. What are you referring to?
HP Recommended

Connection type = kind; It is the column to the right of the list of products. The kind/connection type tells you in which way the Mac is able to find/communicate with the printer.

Commonly listed in this column are:

- USB

- Bonjour

- Bluetooth

- Bonjour Multifunction

Hope this helps

The only thing next to my "Kind:" in System Preferences | Print & Scan is "HP Photosmart 6510 Series". Underneath it says "Status: Idle".

HP Recommended
The "Kind" column is after you click the Add Button ("+") beneath where you are currently seeing your printer name and the idle status.

So System Preferences - Print & Scan - Click the +

The window that pops up will display all printers that your mac is currently able to find, and the "kind" will tell you whether it is USB, Network (Bonjour), or Bluetooth.

Hope this helps :generic:

No dice. When I click the +, It says Printer Name: Photosmart 6510 Series [F7B578] and Kind: Bonjour Multifunction. I add it, and am told it's already there, do I wish to add another? I proceed. OK. Then I touch Scan on my 6510, then Computer, and my Mac isn't there - just "Not Listed".
