Many thanks to DavidSMP for sorting the 5640 probs. Thats now printing colour/monochrome OK.This was a new purchase as I had to replace my 8250 pdq to keep working. What was wrong with the 8250 = printing error ' 0xc18a0001' the device passes boot up /head cleaning but will not print/test print ,error message continues ' Ink system failed turn OFF/ON'. Cartridges replaced, ON/OFF no help, print carriage traverses OK but unusual noise from sprocket drive. I would like to keep the 8250 as it accepts photo camera cards and I Have ink stocks. Hi @print-probs123,
Thank you for showing your interest in the HP Forums,
I'd like to help 🙂
As I understand you are getting a '0x' error message on your HP Photosmart printer. Don't worry we'll work together to find a solution for you,
Let's start by performing a hard reset on the printer.
* With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
* Remove USB cable, if present.
* Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
* Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
* Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
Please follow the steps suggested in the support document: Click here
If the steps suggested does not fix the issue, this could mean that there is an issue with the printer hardware. I would recommend you contact our HP phone support for available service options. Please fill in the product details to get the tech support number.

Thanks for the help but as I needed to keep printing I purchased another HP printer, hate to loose the 8250 with loads of ink and accepting photo cards but I dont have room for two (2) printers so its off recycling.
Sorry for delay in reply but Christmas got in the way.
