If I had recently purchased the C4580 (within the last month or so) I'd wait for the patch.  I really liked the printer but in my case it was a problem for 4 months and time to do something.

I received the replacement C6380 yesterday and so far am impressed.  HP sent it overnight priority.  There is a lot of strange mechanical activity that goes on after printing is finished but as long as it is available 24/7 from anywhere in the house I will be quite satisfied.  I set it up with wired ethernet.

I have been following this topic for a while because i have the C4580 that suffers from the same sleep problems that all of you are having.  I took all of your advice and contacted HP.  This morning i got a call back from the representative who claimed to be handling my case.  He informed me that all i can do is wait for the patch to be maid available, without giving me any assurance that it will fix the problem or an eta.  He also informed me that pulling the plug out was HP's official fix at the moment.

Also, this evening while using the scanner for the first time i discovered that the scanning element was installed at an angle so everything that i scan comes out crooked.

Does anyone have any advice on how i can get out of this nightmare?

Don't give up.  You will get a different tech and different case manager each time.  The case manager that replaced my first c4580 printer was rude and acted like he was angry for having to send me a replacement. I could barely hear him and he had a thick accent. He called, started asking me for information but never told me why he needed it until I asked him to explain. The guy hung up without saying goodbye.

The second case manager that sent me the upgrade this last time was very nice and apologetic, explained everything clearly (english), and seemed to be on top of things. I think customer satisfaction is his #1 priority.

Save all of your chats, remind them you purchased the printer expecting advertised performance, and if the issue is really a problem to you, stay on them.  Remember, HP is working on a "potential" solution. It may or may not fix it.

 Good luck.

DaniW, can you estimate as to when a fix will be available.  Are we talking days, weeks, months, or years?

DaniW, no response as to when the fix will be available???  Like extravoice asked, I think most of us don't expect an exact date, but how about a ball park time frame?  Days?  Weeks?  Months?  Years?

Greetings

Thanks for all of your posts on this topic.

There has been much discussion to date and appreciate everyone's patience in waiting for a solution to be made available. What I can tell you is the HP R&D team is currently testing a solution and we will make it available to the public as soon as it is ready.

I am not in a position, today, to communicate an official release date. Having said that I will commit to provide the forum a more definitive update within the next 2 weeks.

Thanks for your patience and for being a loyal HP customer!

regards,

I have two C4580's that both have this same problem. Looking through the posts here it seems as if everyone has been waiting on a fix for months. Having a wireless printer that has to be unplugged and replugged before each use is a bit problematic. Is there anyone at HP who can tell me if a fix is forthcoming?

Hmm, I bought this printer about 5 days ago and after looking at Amazon reviews, I discovered that tons and tons of people have the sleep problem with this printer.  I thought maybe it was a fluke that 80% of the reviews were negative, but then I started looking around more and every website with reviews had the same comments.  That's what led me here.  It's nice to know that HP is working on a solution, but considering I paid over $100 for the printer "working on a possible solution" just doesn't cut it.  Maybe HP should consider halting production of this model until the problem is fixed?

I'm going to return this printer - I would consider another HP printer, but none of the wireless AIO printers are as compact/affordable as the C4580.  😞

Another new unhappy C4580 owner here with the same sleep/power saver issue.  I had an older HP all-in-one printer that I never had problems with ... until I started using Vista.  That forced me to buy a new Vista compatible printer and of course I bought another HP.

If the firmware fix resolves the issue I'll keep it.  Otherwise, I'll buy something else and never buy another HP again.

I thought only Microsoft releases products that aren't fully tested.

Just thought I would add my details to this Roll Of Shame. Same issue - thirty minutes printer goes to sleep and I have to physically unplug it from the wall socket to make it work again. A couple of things spring to mind over this. There is absolutely nothing on the Support Page for this printer. The only Alert is about a fault with the Customer Participation software - you are left having to search about trying to find any details on the problem, eventually finding this thread which appears to be the only reference to the issue on the whole HP Site. If this issue cannot be resolved should there not be a recall of this product . Finally I cannot believe HP are still selling this printer while this issue is unresolved. Surely they must be breaking consumer protection laws in knowingly selling a faulty product.

If it isn't resolved by next week this may be an interesting option for us sufferers http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board/message?board.id=News&thread.id=7 there are a couple of questions on Wireless Printing on a C4580 that 'd like to ask theseexperts.

Interestingly enough after HP Case Managers noted they were aware of the C4580 sleep issue and suggested a C4599 for a replacement since it is the latest model of same function and form yet as Wi-Fi-Guy tells us ans as I found by testing the newly released C4599 is the same printer in new skin and therefore operates (or lacks to operate) just like the C4599As posted earlier after following the instructions from HP and trying five (5) different printers of same model including the C4599 I moved to the J6489 and am happyAlthough be aware installing another HP printer after installing the C4580 required a reformat of the PC system drive (C:).  This of course was not my choice but was HPs only solution to getting the J6480 to fully install.
