Can anyone who tries this out, please post your results here? I actually want to buy this printer but obviously only if this fix works! Thanks!

I just downloaded the patch and installed it on Vista 64-bit Home Premium without any problems. My printer was connected via WiFi and powered on at the time of install. At the end of the install it printed out a "Device Update Report".
I will post an update after 24 hours uptime.

No offence intended, NB, but what is going on here, HP? We have been patiently waiting for MONTHS for an official announcement about this gods-forsaken printer problem, only to have the fix pointed out by someone who came across it in another thread? What happened to Danni and his/her promise to give us a time estimate?
Personally, I am far more upset with how HP has handled consumer communication than I am with the printer problem. Phone/email support still seems to know nothing about the problem. As someone else posted, there is nothing official on the HP website other than in this forum. Here is some advice..Neglecting customers is not a good way to keep them. WiFi Guy is the only silver lining to this whole experience....and he isn't even posting in an official capacity. HP should be ashamed.

After calming down, I followed the link and ran the update for the C4500 series printer from my Windows XP computer. It ran for a while, and then said that there was a communiation loss. This was followed by the printer spitting out a diagnostic page indicating (among other things) that the firmware version is WRLxFN0823AR Patch = 30.
Upon subsequent attempts to rerun the update, the program says that the "device is not connected" and I should "refresh". Refreshing does not do anything, but I'm pretty sure the device is connected becasue the HP Solution Center says it is, and I can print things.
Can anyone tell me if my firmware has been upgraded? As I recall, WRLxFN0823AR was the original firmware, but maybe the "Patch=30" is the upgrade?

Yes, that's it: "WRLxFN0823AR Patch = 30"
If you see that on the post update report, then FW patch was applied successfully.

Greetings
As a follow on to my March 3 communique (post 105 of this thread) I am happy to confirm that HP did release the long awaited patch yesterday for the Windows OS. I happened to be out of the office yesterday so apologies for not getting to this board sooner.
The Hewlett-Packard company has released a firmware update for the issue that occurs on the Photosmart C4500 series and Photosmart C4400 series. The updates are currently available for use on the Windows OS.
The following links can be used to find the software for the two affected products.
Critical Update to Prevent and Unresponsive State for Photosmart C4400 Series

Thanks Wi-Fi-Guy for confirming the message that the patch was applied successfully.
This solution may benefit Mac users "only if the Mac customer has a PC in their computing environment"
The team is testing a dedicated solution for Mac environments, however, HP does not have a date when it will may be made available. I will keep this board notified on further developments.
Thanks for your patience
regards
