I'm very happy for everyone that either decided not to bother HP about their problem or were refused action by an HP agent to resolve their issue. I almost feel a little guilty for accepting the upgrade to the c6380 after 4 months of dealing with the c4580 instead of waiting a 5th month for the patch.
I bought this printer in October. I don't know how long it had already been in production before then. So for at least 5 months HP has been cranking out these defective AIO's knowing there is a serious issue with them. My concern is the "not so computer savy" folks out there (like my mother) that got suckered into buying this thing and may have given up, thrown it away, and just bought another brand. It makes me ill to think about it.
PCWorld magazine's recent poll rated HP at the bottom of the list for customer satisfaction and equipment reliability. I couldn't believe it but this experience has changed my mind. HP was so good in the past but I guess competition and the pressure to produce cheaply has taken its toll.
Sorry guys. I cannot ever recommend another HP product after I have witnessed first hand how you handle your customers' problems.
Good luck with your new patch. The C4580 is a nice printer...I just couldn't hang any longer.

It has been over a week since I downaloaded the patch, and my C4580 seems to be working as advertised. I'm sure a lot of people at HP worked hard to make this happen, and I thank them. I also hope that HP has learned a how to better communicate issues with its customers AND its front-line tech support. It is easy to lose a customer's trust, and hard to gain it back.

I have not heard for any plans for a Mac version of the patch program.
Your best bet is to borrow a laptop, install the SW for the C4580 on it (do a USB installation so that the curent wireless settings are not affected) and run the patch. Follow-up by uninstalling the SW on the borrowed laptop.

You have to be effen kidding me!
I have been waiting patiently on a solution and the only one HP delivers is for WINDOWS? (No offense Windows users, congrats to you)
There was no indication in earlier posts that the Mac patch wasn't part of the forthcoming solution.
Is a Mac patch in testing? Is one being developed? Will we see it this year? I don't have a Windows PC in the house (or a copy to install under bootcamp). There is a reason for that.
Come on HP! It's crazy you released a product that was so inherently defective and you can't deliver a fix within a reasonable period that actually makes the product work the way it is supposed to.

I recommend calling HP support and see what they say. Be polite and insist on a solution and I suspect they will have to resolve your issue to your satisfaction.

Yes, add me to the list of unhappy costumers. Uggh, bought this for my wife for her birthday and this has caused her more anxiety and frustration than if I had put her in a car during rush hour with an overturned tractor trailer.
Thanks for nothing HP. How about a fix for the MAC users.
And, yes, get this bloody thing off the shelf! There were 20 of them at the BEST BUY I went to -- and, of course, they were a 'steal' (now I know why).
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

CK1,refreshing 29 and all other Mac customers apologies for any confusion & thanks for your patience. I want to assure you that HP is not ignoring the Mac community on this issue.
As I mentioned in my post 20 days ago (post 120 of 129) a dedicated Mac solution is currently being tested, unfortunately I am not in a position today to communicate a date when it will be available for release, hopefully soon.
I will update the forum again as soon as more definitive information is available.
In the meantime, there is a workaround as suggested by WiFiGuy if you're able to get your printer in to a windows environment to install the patch.
Finally there are a number of HP engineers on this board who are doing their best to share their knowledge on technology and solutions such as WiFiGuy. At the same time they may not have complete visibility to all the work going on behind the scenes. As an admin I am plugged in to a larger team that has this visibility (extravoice thanks for highlighting this in your post)
Again thanks for all your patience!
regards
