I tried your method and it didn't work. But I did it again and when the loop started, I pressed OK and shut off the machine. Instead of unplugging everything, I just pressed #6 and turned it back on. I did this twice, and it it went into 3 printer set-up cycles and it is now working. If HP reads this they should know there is a problem considering 9,486 views of your method!!

I tried this with no luck and then...

14 days later, i had to do it again.

I did this and no sucess, but then I powered off after clicking OK and then powered on with the # and 6 buttons depressed twice more and it recovered. However, when I try to fax it powers off and starts his process all over again.

Everyone is blaming it on power sources, brown outs, etc. You all can't be more wrong. I have done the # and 6 procedure prior to even stumbling on this post. Printer reset everything good....wrong. The printer will work again with all Windows OS computers just fine as it did before a Mac entering into the household. Installed the correct driver then reinstalled with no succes.
Proof in summary: C6180 is recognized in the software after reinstall on Mac. Printer works fine with Windows OS machines at this point. Send test /print job from Mac and here we go Off/On/Off/On same problem as reported. # and 6 hold down procedure enter new wireless settings everything works as normal on Windows OS machines. Send test page/print job from Mac OS X 10.6 and problem repeats itself.
Bottom line: There is a driver problem!! Come on HP....figure it out already!!!

FYI...
I have had an HP C6180 over 2 years and recently started receiving power cycle on-off non stop.
I tried hard reset with the symbols and numbers numerous times with no effect.
Finally, I opened the printer, took the PCB out and tested it for faults, 2 Capacitors (Electrolytic)were faulty 330UF 10V... I replaced the capacitors but with a higher voltage (25v), The printer is now back to normal operation. The repair cost was 56 cents. I hope this message will help people with the same problem.
I ended up replacing capacitors C613 and C614 with 25V 330uF caps and my printer is healthy once again. If you are experiencing this problem (and you are comfortable with this type of repair) this may be your answer.

This is the exact problem I've been having (cycling on and off of the printer). None of the solutions that I have heard has worked....tech support or other remedies that other users have posted. I'm willing to try making the repair myself if you would be so kind to share in detail how to make that repair and where to purchase the parts. Any information you provide would be helpful.
Thanks, SB

B70dub, you made the solution seem very simple but for us non techies what does it mean?
I hope that HP browse these pages because it seems like you have found a way to solve the problem but it may cost them (HP) a couple of pennies to fix.
