Hi,

I have a Photosmart C6280 that keeps telling me I need to clear the paper jam whenever I try to print something. However, there are no jams. I've checked every pathway inside the printer and I see no evidence of any remnant paper being stuck anywhere. When I get the message, I just click "OK" and it continues to print.

Any ideas what could be causing this and how I can resolve? I'll be glad to supply any other information that is needed. Thanks in advance.

Hey @GTifeld,

I understand that you're receiving what you believe to be a 'false' paper jam on your HP Photosmart C6280 All-in-One Printer. I would like to work with you today with resolving this issue. Paper jams can be real or false. The product might report a paper jam even when there is no jammed paper. A false paper jam may also be the result of having a bad paper jam at a point in time and that bad jam causing a hardware issue to the paper sensor or rollers. I am going to provide you with some additional troubleshooting steps that apply to both real and false paper jams. You did state that you already checked the paper pathway inside the printer and failed to find any evidence of paper being stuck, but please run the step-by-step troubleshooting below, even if you have already run some of the steps.

Step 1: Clear the Jam from the Rear of the All-in-One:

1. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the product.

2. Remove the two-sided printing accessory (duplexer) from the back of the product.

3. Gently pull any jammed paper out of the rollers in the back of the product.

4. Rotate the rollers upward to make sure that they move.

5. Clear any paper jammed paper from inside the duplexer:

a) Open the duplexer by pulling the tabs up

b) Remove any paper from inside the duplexer

c) Close the duplexer by pressing the tabs down until they lock into place.

6. Reattach the duplexer to the back of the product. Gently push the duplexer forward until it snaps into place.

Step 2: Clear the jam from the front of the All-in-One:

1. Open the cartridge door.

2. Gently pull the paper out of the rollers inside the product.

3. Close the cartridge door.

Step 3: Reset the All-in-One:

  1. Press the Power button () to turn off the product.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the product.
  3. Unplug the power adapter from the wall outlet, and then wait 30 secs.
  4. Plug the power adapter back into the wall outlet.
  5. Reconnect the power cord to the back of the product.
  6. Press the Power button () to turn on the product.

Try to print. If problem persists, follow the step below.

Step 4: Clean the rollers:

  1. Disconnect the power cable.
  2. Remove the two-sided printing accessory (duplexer) from the back of the product.
  3. Wipe the paper rollers in the rear of the product with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled or bottled water.
  4. Reattach the duplexer to the back of the product. Gently push the duplexer forward until it snaps into place.
  5. Press the Power button () to turn the product on.

Try to print again!

Should the paper jam message still be occuring than generally the next step would be a replacement. Please let me know if the steps I've provided make any difference for you. Good luck!
