Hi, I have just picked up an ENVY 5640 as I needed a printer compatible with my Acer Chromebook. I've connected the printer to my laptop via wireless and i've printed documents successfully.
However, I've loaded photo paper correctly into the photo tray and tried to print a photo however it has just printed on paper (I selected photo tray in the advanced print settings on my chromebook). Searching google, a google forum stated it's the printer manufacturer that I need to contact as it's not a Google issue.
Can you help please as I desperately need to print some photos for Christmas presents!!
Thank you.

Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂 I appreciate you taking the time to post your query here. I came across you post and would like to help. I understand that you have an HP ENVY 5640 e-All-in-One Printer and the printer does not pick the photo paper from the photo tray. Instead, the printer picks the paper from the main tray. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.
I recommend you to perform the below steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a solution:
-
Open the Chrome browser
, and then sign in to your Google account.
-
Click Print, select Upload file to print, and then click Select a file from my computer.
-
Select the document you want to print, and then click Open.
-
From the Google Cloud Print window, select your printer, and then click Print.
-
Change print settings (select photo tray), and then click Print again.
Please refer to more information on Using Google Cloud Print with Your HP Printer. These solutions are explained in detail in this document:
Let me know the outcome. Cheers! 🙂

Thanks for replying with the results. 🙂 Please remove the normal paper out and let only the photo paper be in the photo tray. This way let us check if the printer senses the photo paper and picks it up.
Let me know. Thanks again! 🙂

I have done all of that, it is all correct as I can print regular documents, just not photos.I only bought this printer as it was supposedly compatible with my chromebook and I need to print photos regularly.
Can you please confirm if it is possible to print photos?

Hello there! Yes, the printer is capable for printing on photo paper. I suggest you to make a copy on the photo paper and check. If the printer makes a copy from the photo tray then the printer hardware should be fine. Let me know how it goes. Thanks! 🙂
