I have the following problem:
I installed the printer drivers but after choosing the paper size to A3 the choice is not maintained (the choice exists but not fixed), that is, when I go to printer options again the paper size is set to letter. I can't change the paper size to any paper size greater than letter, sizes bellow are accepted (A4 is accepted).

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer driver.

I've tried to install on my laptop and it works well on it.

I've tried to stop antivirus activities and firewall it still doesn't work.

I've tried to install printer with usb cable and still doesn't work.

I've tried to install in my wifes PC and still doesn't work (same issue).

I've tried to erase all info about the printer on folder "User\appdata" and still doesn't work

i've installed on an old PC with windows XP SP3 and it works well.

My PC and my wifes are windows 7 ultimate 32 bits; (doesn't work)

My notebook is windows 7 homepremium 64 bits; (work);

My oldComputer is windows xp sp3 32 bits (work);

The printer must work on my pc and my wifes since those are our daily working units...

The fact is that my workstation cannot print beyond the letter format.

Some solution?
I saw that several people have had this problem but there were no solution by HP support.

Hi andrewcass2,

Out of the three computers, you are just having this issue with the Windows 7 ultimate 32 bits.

I have had a similar issue with another post, here are some steps you may try.

Change the location settings on the computer to United States. (might not be allowing the paper size changes)

Go to start, control panel, Region and Language. Select the Location tab, click on the drop down and select United

States. Then click on the Formats tab and click on the drop down and select English (United States)

Restart the computer.

Try changing the settings again.

Try Notepad to see if you have the same results.

Also try unchecking the option "Scale content for A3" from the software you are printing from.

Let me know how you make out.

Thank You.

Hi andrewcass2,

I understand you aren't able to select any other paper sizes.

I will be happy to help you.

The application that you are printing from will need to be changed to the correct paper size also.

(the application settings can overwrite the printer driver settings)

Try these two ways to see if the print driver holds the settings.

These settings are not permanent printing from the application by changing the printer settings.

From the application open the Print dialog box.
Click File , and then click Print.
Make sure that your printer is in the Name drop-down list box, and then click Properties.
Click the Paper/Quality tab.
Select the paper size from the Paper Size drop-down list.
In the Media drop down list, click the desired paper type.
Select the paper source from the Paper Source drop-down list.
Change any other settings, and then click Ok to close the Properties dialog box.

Try and print now.

To change the paper size permanently in the print driver do the following steps:

Click on start, click devices and printers, right click the printer, left click printer properties, click preferences, Paper/Quality tab. Select the  paper source, media type, paper size, and quality settings.

Apply the settings.

Try and print now.

If you require further help please provide the following information so I can help you better.

What operating system are you using? How to Find the Windows Edition and Version on Your Computer.

What application are you printing from?

Let me know if that made a difference.

Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.
Have a nice day!

As I said before I've tried to change the paper size, even in the applications. For ex. on word a can change the paper format to A3 but the printer will print only into part of the paper. Samething happens with Autocad, brikscad, and other software that requires local and printer  configurations.

What happens is that the program is set to the paper size A3 but the printer can't be set to letter. What causes the printer to print only in a portion of the page.

When i try to set the paper size in the printer settings (device and printers) paper size always reverts to letter size it simply canot save the setting.

Both PC that give problems here are those that have the HP1315 driver installed. I do not know if it has any relation to the problem, but in doubt i uninstalled the driver and tried to install the driver officejet 7110 but there was no improvement.

The system we use is the: Windows 7 ultimate 32 bits

Appplication we use to print: Autocad, brikscad, office suite, libreoffice (but i remember you that the problem is not related to applications since the driver configuration on the "device printers" doesn't save any configuration above letter size)

The fact is the printer is not allowing any configuration that the HP 1315 printer would'nt accept!!

So I still wait and thanks

Hi andrewcass2,

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner.

I was able to install the Officejet 7110 printer on one of our labs with Win 7.

To change the paper settings I went to start, devices and printers.
Right clicked on the printer and then clicked Printer Properties.
Clicked on the Paper/Quality tab.

I selected the A3 297x420mm - brochure and clicked OK.

From the application I went to file, print, preferences, Paper/Quality tab and the same A3 297x420mm - brochure settings were selected.

I had no issues on the Win 7 computer.

It must be something on your computer like Admin rights or the driver install isn't installed properly.

Thank You.

The driver is installed properly, since i can change the paper size to formats bellow letter (letter, A4, A5, ... etc) this means the driver is not saving only sizes over letter size!

Like i said it seems that the printer is limited to the size of the previous installed HP printer! ??!!

I wrilly dont know how to solve this. The 7110 printer driver seems to install perfectly only in a clean windows 7 installation. This is not acceptable.

I would nedd an uninstallation tool to remove completly the HP 1315 drivers before re-installatinf the HP7110 drivers to be shure...

Hi andrewcass2,

Here is a link to Fix problems that programs cannot be installed or uninstalled.

Run this to remove the HP 1315 drivers.

Let me know if that makes a difference.

Thank You.

Dear Bro.,

I have win7 as my operating system and i have suffered from this problem 1 week ago, untill my friend catch the solution,

The solution of this problem depends on how the printer is connected to your copmuter (ex. using USB cable, network cable or wireless),

If your printer is installed on a certain computer and shared on other computers here is the solution:-

1- From the secondary Computers click on "start Menu" go to "printer and devices" - Right click on the printer and click remove device.

2- Restart the primary computer and open the Hp Application.

3- click on set preferences you will find All the paper sizes

4- Go to the network computers and douple click on the Shared printer again to Connect with it, you will see All the paper sizes.

good day
Thanks for your help, but unfortunately the problem you described does not match my situation.
My printer is not attached to any computer on my network, it is connected to a WIFI network only (no server).
The paper sizes appear correctly in the options, but when I choose a size above Legal and click the OK button, the system chooses the legal size again ignoring my option. However I can change the size of any other size as long as you are under the legal size!

One solution I found was using Bullzip pdf printer, so I generate PDF files with the correct paper size. I go to print in Adobe PDF reader and go to print, i put in settings to the paper size on A3 and print!  PDF ADOBE accepts and prints with the right paper. However I have to re configure the paper size to A3 at  every printing! It's a true pain but it's the only way i found.

It seem thar adobe uses another type of proceedings to print it's files!

On my notebook (windows 8.1 64 ) the problem was worse! I set the paper to A3 then the sistem accepts but prints in Legal format Shrinking all the image to legal format! Ridiculous...

HP tecnicians advised me to format my computer and re-install the sistem! I'm an engineer and have a plenty of work on my computer! Probably much more valuable than this horrible printer. Anyway a wonder if HP enginners solve printer problems that way on their own houses!

Anyway a still haven't any solution

Someone seem to have found a solution on this forum usiing a HP 7000 offijet series printer driver, ie, an older driver!
