Printer error: "Unsupported Personality: PCL"

I am running Windows 7 on a Dell XPS M1530.  I have an HP Laserjet 1012.  I installed the driver for the lj 1015 and it worked for a while, but now when I try to print something, all that comes out printed is the message:   "Unsupported Personality:  PCL"

Any help is appreciated.  Thank you!

I seem to recollect (but haven't attempted to verify) that:

• The LaserJet 1012 is a host-based printer, which means that it does not understand, or offer support for, any of the traditional Page Description Languages (PCL5, PCL6, PostScript).
• The LaserJet 1015 does support PCL5, as well as the host-based protocol; hence at least one of the drivers may very well be a PCL5 one.
• The  LaserJet 1012 probably has a rudimentary ability to process a small amount of plain text, and perhaps some simple PCL5 sequences, in order to provide a diagnostic / report capability, but this will only work until the printer's page buffer is full.
• Powering the printer off then on again will clear the page buffer, so it will again give the impression of understanding some non-GDI input, until the buffer is full again.
