@kengolf, go to this url and download the PCL5 Plug and Play Scan/Print driver package.

Run the downloaded file.

Go to the Printers and Faxes and make this new driver the default printer. (PCL 5e)

Try printing.

I did go to the URL you suggested but was unable to connect. I then googled the "lj3050x-309x-PCL5-pnp-win-en.exe", found it and downloaded it.  When I tried to install it, I was unsuccessful as the installation failed (3 attempts).   It's possible it won't replace a newer download: "lj3050x-309x-PCL6-pnp-win-en.exe".

However, even with all those failures, the problem seems to have resolved itself and my printer is not (currently) producing blank cover pages with every printing job.  Who Knows?

I will try your solution again later to see if it also works.  Should I remove the existing driver from the printer BEFORE trying to install your "lj3050x-309x-PCL5-pnp-win-en.exe"???

@kengolf, I would leave it alone for the time being.

Removal of the old driver should not be necessary.

Since you are running XP, do you know that in April/2014 Microsoft will no longer be supporting it.

Yes, aware of cessation but, since I like it better than Win7, I'll stay with it until the end. (Same with Outlook Express. Losing support but I want an email program that is on MY computer. Thanks for your help

Give Thunderbird a try, easy to export your OE mail.
