Printer needs to be unplugged and plugged in before each use. This is a new problem. The printer is connected to my Macbook Pro via wireless connection. The wireless connection is good. I know this because printer will update. I have updated and the printer indicates all latest updates have been downloaded.

When I try to print a document from my laptop I get an error message, The Printer is Not Connected. When I try to print a document from my iphone the error message is, No AirPrint Printers Found. The printer shows Idle, Default if I go to my Printers Control Panel on my lap top. I have no problems copying documents.

Thanks for joining the HP Support Forums community @Lsita! Here you can find solutions, suggestions and access to helping hands!

I understand that you have an issue with wireless connectivity on your printer.

When you try to print from your Apple device with Apple AirPrint, a No AirPrint Printers Found message displays. To resolve the issue, restart all devices, update the printer and Apple device, and make sure all devices are on the same network. Then please follow steps 1-8 in the What if a 'No AirPrint Printers Found' message displays on my Apple device? section of the documentation.

For the computer saying that the printer is not connected, please try using the Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection documentation. There are 8 solutions provided in this document with detailed steps for each outlined. Please follow each step as the document outlines them.

If you require further assistance, please come back on and re-post. I would be more than happy to help!

Thank you for replying but this is not the problem. My printer does NOT have trouble maintaining a wireless connection. The connection is good and constant.

Hey,

Thank you for getting back to me. The issue may not be that the printer is having trouble maintaining a wireless connection, however, there are steps in that particular document that I felt may have helped like:

  • Printing a Network Configuration Page to see information from the printer
  • Changing the IPV4 to a static IP
  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor

Here is a previous thread called cannot connect printer to mac - status is idle that may help you as it did help another customer.

Please run the print and scan doctor and follow the steps in the thread provided. If these do not work please try these document: Resolve printer issues on your Mac

Let me know how these go! 🙂

HP does not have a scan doctor for Mac OS X.

I tried resetting my printer as  you instructed. It deleted the printer and when I tried to "reinstall" it, the printer did not show as an available printer. I checked the wireless connectivity for the printer (ran report) and it showed that it was working. I unplugged the printer and plugged it back in and then the printer showed as an option to add. The problem is with the printer, not the computer or other my other Apple devices because none of my devices show the printer as an available device until I unplug and replug the printer.

Any other ideas?

Hey,

If the problem appears to be with the printer. Please follow the The printer is not responding (nothing prints) steps from the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer series - N911 User Guide (Page 100):

Are there print jobs stuck in the print queue?

  • Open the print queue,
  • Cancel all documents,
  • Reboot the computer.
  • Try to print after the computer reboots.

Check the HP software installation

If the printer is turned off when printing, an alert message should appear on your computer screen; otherwise, the HP software provided with the printer might not be installed correctly.

To resolve this, uninstall the HP software completely, and then reinstall the HP software.

Check the cable connections

  • Make sure both ends of the USB cable or Ethernet cable are secure.
  • If the printer is connected to a network, check the following:
    • Check the Link light on the back of the printer.
    • Make sure you are not using a phone cord to connect the printer.

Check any personal firewall software installed on the computer

The personal software firewall is a security program that protects a computer from intrusion. However, the firewall might block communication between the computer and the printer. If there is a problem communicating with the printer, try temporarily disabling the firewall. If the problem persists, the firewall is not the source of the communication problem. Re-enable the firewall.

If none of the above steps work, please try to connect using Wireless Direct for one full day to see if the connection can remain established. To get started with Wireless Direct printing please follow these steps:

Turn on Wireless Direct from the control panel.

  • From the Home screen, touch the Wireless icon.
  • If Wireless Direct is turned off: touch Settings.
  • Touch Wireless Direct
  • Touch On (No Security) or On (With Security).
    • If you turn on security, only users with the password can print wirelessly to the printer.
    • If you turn off security, anyone with a Wi-Fi device within Wi-Fi range of the printer can connect to the printer.
  • Touch Display Name to display the Wireless Direct name.
  • From your computer, search for and connect to the Wireless Direct name (example: HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus)

After you connect to Wireless Direct, you can use the installed printer software or a printing app for mobile devices to print to the printer.

Note: A maximum of five clients (computers or mobile devices) can connect to the wireless direct signal at a time.

Please let me know the results of these steps.

Thank you. I tried all of your suggestions.

There was not a printing cue (I had deleted them each time). I do not have a firewall turned on.

I previously uninstalled and reinstalled the printer. I have a question about that though. Since I am using wireless it does not require a software installation. Correct? I uninstalled it, unplugged it and plug it in again so that I could find the printer through my wireless connection.

I turned on wireless direct. I do not use an ethernet cable. But still says printer cannot be found.

The printer shows that it is connected to my router and the connection is good. I have turned all devices on and off many times.

I then unpluged the printer and plugged it back it. I was able to fire off a document from my Macbook Pro laptop and one from my iphone. The printer then went immediately offline. iphone says no airprinters found. Laptop says printer is not connected.

I've had this computer for a couple of years and never had a problem. Very frustrating. Is there a help line I can call?

I have  fixed it.

I went into my Utilites folder. Clicked on my Airport Utilities where it showed the devices connected to my wireless. The printer was listed with a good connection but I still could not connect to my printer.

I updated my firmware on my Airport Utility.

Problem is fixed!

Thank you for all for being so responsive. I hope my solution might help someone else.
