the printer can find the network and set up wizard then requests a password.  I have entered it multiple times, no typos, yes I know that passwords are case sensitive, and each time I get an error message saying password is invalid. No problem connecting other devices to the network.

Hi @RB19,

Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Forums!

I understand that you're unable to connect your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M225dw Printer wirelessly on your network. I will certainly do my best to help you and please remember to return to this thread and mark 'Accept as Solution', if I have successfully helped you resolve the issue. If you wish to say 'thanks' for my effort to help, click the 'thumbs up' to give me a Kudos.

It sounds like there is a network configuration issue that is not compatible with your printer or there is a problem with the printer.

First, from the printer's front panel menu restore the network defaults and turn off IPV6.
Restore defaults:

  1. Setup Menu
  2. Network Setup
  3. Restore Defaults

Disable IPV6:

  1. Setup Menu
  2. Network Setup
  3. Network Services
  4. Turn off IPv6
  • Try reconfiguring the wireless again.

Tips for successful network configurations:

  • Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet (don't use a power bar or a surge protector). This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
  • How old is the router? Update the router's firmware.
  • Do not hide the SSID (network name).
  • What encryption type are you using? HP recommends WPA and WPA2.
  • Make sure you have 802.11g enabled.
  • The printer cannot connect to the 5.0 GHz network. If you have a dual-band router, the 2.4 GHz network name should not be the same as your 5.0 GHz network name. Rename the 5.0 GHz network.
  • Enable DHCP.
  • Use a unique network name (SSID).
  • Avoid using Mac Address Filtering on the router.
  • Change the router to a fixed wireless channel like 1, 6 or 11, which has less traffic.
  • Do you have a switch or an additional router?
  • Do not use a guest network (SSID).
  • Disable Bluetooth on the Mac.
  • Click here to download and update the printer's firmware,

If the issue persists, use this guide:

If the issue persists, I recommend that we try the NVRAM Reset. I can send you that information in a private message. In the forum beside your handle name just click on the envelope to view it.

Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you. Good Luck! 🙂

Hi @RB19

Thanks for getting back to me.

In order for me to assist you better, I will require more information. Can you explain in more detail what "did not work"?

Are you getting an error message?

It would be helpful to know the information asked previously.

  • Did you upgrade the printer's firmware?

Do you have special charters in your wireless passphrase?

If the issue persists, I want you to try HP Wireless Direct.
Open the User Guide and go to: Set up HP Wireless Direct Printing.

  • Try printing using HP Wireless Direct to test the printer's wireless radio.
  • What were the results?

If printing worked well, there is a problem with your network configuration. I recommend that you restore the router to factory settings and reconfigure the network using WPA or WPA2 encryption.

If you are not able to print using HP Wireless Direct and you have followed all of the above recommendations, the printer's wireless radio is not functioning.

If you completed all the preceding steps and your product still has an issue, service the product.
Contacting HP for service in all countries/regions except Asia Pacific.
First, go to Check your product warranty to check your printer warranty status, and then go to Contact HP Support to find an authorized service dealer or to schedule a repair.
Check Warranty Status: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/wc/public/home
Repair fees might apply for out-of-warranty printers.
What you can do, is use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:
Step 1. Open link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp
Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect
Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"
Step 4. Scroll down and click on HP contact options - click on Get phone number
Case number and phone number appear.

Please let me know the results. 🙂
