When I try to print Avery labels, the text prints about 1/2" too low, so that it isn't centred in the label. Also, when I just printed 2 columns of text, it printed off-centre (margin at left is 1/2" instead of the 3/4" it was set at).

Hi finART,

Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand you are having trouble printing with Avery labels. I am happy to help you! I have some questions for you:

  • What Operating System are you using? Windows or Mac? What version?
  • What type of printer do you have? To find your printer's Product/Model Number follow instructions in this link. Finding Your HP Product Model Number.
  • How is the printer connected? Wireless, Ethernet, or USB?
  • Can you make copies with the printer?

Hope to hear back from you, and have a great day! Smiley Happy

I have an HP LaserJet P1102w printer, which I thought was printing fine until I tried printing Avery Labels. I have to set the labels to have a 0" top margin in order to fit into the labels properly.

I see that the printer is set with British defaults and no matter how many times I try to change the default from A4 to Letter, and from mm to inches, it always goes back. But, even when set as Letter, it still prints offset.

My system is Windows 7. The printer is connected with USB, and I do not intend to use it as wireless.

I'd really appreciate any help you can give me!

Thanks, Catharine

Hi finART,

Thank you for your response! It is most likely some settings need to be changed within the program you are printing from, for the margins to be adjusted correctly. I would recommend contacting Avery Support. As they may have some different software you could use, or settings that could be suggested.

Hope this helps you, and have a great day! :generic:

It is a printer problem, not a problem with the Avery label set-up. I am using the same set-up for preprepared labels that I have been using for years without problems on other printers. So it is definitely a problem with the HP LaserJet P1102w.

Hi finART,

I apologize for my first suggestion, I now have a couple more questions for you, to determine if the printer is the issue:

  • What happens when you print from another program on regular paper? Is the printing still offset?
  • What happens when you print a configuration page? Printing a Configuration Page.

Please try printing the label on regular paper. After that page is printed, place it on top of the Avery paper, and see if it lines up. If it does line up, then the problem lies with the type of paper you are using, or the setting needs to be changed to plain paper. We also want to make sure the Avery paper you are using, is specifically used for Laserjet printers, as the paper could heat up, and get stuck in the printer.

Hope to hear from you, and have a great day! Smiley Happy

My last reply went without my completing it.

I have printed the labels on plain paper and they print 1/2" too high. I have a brand-new package of Avery Laser White Mailing Labels, #05260. The problem is definitely not with them overheating.

I have also printed text formatted with 1/2" margins left and right, landscape format, in two columns. It prints with a left margin of just under 1", and a right margin of just over 1/4"

When talking to HP Tech Support, he had me print out a test page. On this test page, there is a box with a cross in the middle of it. When I folded the page in half, this cross does not appear in the middle of the page, but is offset about 1/8" to the right.

Hi finART,

Thank you for your reply! I would recommend to go through this print quality guide. Troubleshooting Print Quality Issues. At the end of the document is steps for cleaning the inside of the printer.

Hopefully a brand new printer (about 2 weeks old) and having printed less than 100 pages will not need the inside of the printer cleaned, but I will check that out.
