I have an OfficeJet 8500 Wireless printer. Lately the black ink cartridge is leaving a strip of extra ink along the right side of the paper. The document prints correctly but then along the side is just a layer of black ink that is then getting all over everyone and their clothes. How do I correct this??

Hey Kristy_SB,
I see you are having an issue with your printer producing extra ink in a strip down the side of output pages. You have an Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless (A909n) printer. The first thing I want to address is ink on an individual. Please look at the link provided below for removing ink stains.

As to the issue at hand with the printer: It sounds like the printer may have some ink that has gotten on the rollers inside the printer. Try opening the top of the printer and check for ink on the rollers inside the unit. Do you see any ink on these rollers? Also, remove the duplexer on the rear of the printer. Wipe the rollers down on the rear of the printer as well to ensure no ink is present.
As to the clothing issue I saw your message and have sent it to the right people for their review. You should hear back from someone shortly via private message on this Forum. Please check you inbox messages.
I am not an HP employee.

I have the same problem, and it seems to be constantly refreshed with a fresh supply of black ink all the way down the left side of the page, front and back of the paper. I have called a printer repair person, and they recommended replacing the printhead, which I ordered a new black/yellow printhead and replaced it. No difference. Any further developments on what is causing this. Ink is so expensive, so I hate to replace my almost new black ink cartridge, and I just spent $70 for the print head. Do I need to cut my losses and buy a new printer?
