Hi frustrated300,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I understand you are having issues setting up the printer. It is stuck in intializing.
I will be happy to help you.
Disconnect any cables from the printer except the power cable. (Fax, USB, Ethernet)
I would do a power reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
With the printer still turned on, disconnect the power cable from the back of the printer, then disconnect the power
cable from the wall outlet.
Wait 60 seconds and reconnect the power cable back to the wall outlet first, then the back of the printer and power it on again.
If you are still having issues then check your private messages for some other steps to try.
In the forum beside your handle name just click on the envelope to view it.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.
Have a nice day.

Hi NitramDist,
Thanks for letting me know the results.
Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet. (don't use a power hub or a surge protector)
Check the toner carousel to see if it will move properly. It might be causing this issue.
Touch the Supply icon for one of the cartridges.
The cartridges should rotate to the cartridge you select.
If the carousel isn't rotating then you will have to manually move it.
Open the scanner lid and the lid below that so you should see the toners.
On the left hand side of the black frame, you will see a picture of the printer.
To the right of the picture, you will see a oval hole with a white plastic piece inside it.
You will need to use something to push down on the white plastic piece, at the same time push the carousel backwards, don't touch the toner though. It has to be in the exact right position in order to be able to pull the toner out.
What is the message on the display?
Thank You.

Did you ever get a resolution to this? I am having the same exact issue with the printer "stuck" at initializing. The tonor carousel doesn't rotate. I can press home button, select a supply icon, it tells me "brining to front" but the carousel never turns.
Will RMA this printer for credit if there's no solution.

I am having the same problem with the printer stuck on initializing and the toner cartridges not rotating. I have turned on and off the printer several times (and unplugged it from the power source and plugged it directly into the wall). I tried to get on chat and despite a "less than a minute wait time", waited for 20 minutes and finally disconnected. Tried to call the 24/7 support line and had the pleasure of hold music for 30 minutes. This seems to be a known problem with this printer. Why not just post how to fix it or provide us a way to get a refund!?!???!

I too am having the same problem. Brand new, right out of the box. Here's what I've seen: Initialization doesn't complete, but I can press the home icon. Noticed an alert symbol over the toner button. Question marks over all four toner icons. Opened the toner cover and the yellow cartridge is always at the top, with the yellow roller exposed. Using the tip above, I have removed all the cartridges one by one. They all look OK, expect the cyan cartridge has a distinct black line on the blue roller from one end to the other. When put the cyan cartridge back, it took some doing to get it seated securely. Turned printer on, and initialization always stops when yellow cartridge is at the top, with yellow roller exposed. Is it possible I have a faulty cyan cartridge that is not allowing the carousel to move past the yellow cartridge? I have to say this is extremely disappointing. This new printer is replacing a 15+ year old LaserJet 5MP that still works fine mechanically, it just can't handle current printing protocols (most notably PDF files, etc).

Hi semb,
I see by your post that the cyan cartridge has a distinct black line on the blue roller from one end to the other. The printer is stuck in initialization also.
The toner needs to be replaced, there shouldn't be any black on the drum.
It might be possibly causing issue with the printer starting up.
I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
I will send you a PM with the reset to see if that will resolve the printer stuck in initialization.
I would recommend to call HP Tech Support and inquire about a replacement toner. Call 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region please click the link below to get the support number for your region. Contact HP Worldwide.
Have a great day!
Thank You.
