I've tried both resets, and neither have fixed the problem. You then recommend calling HP Tech support about getting replacment cartridge, and I will do so, but this better be free as I am loathe to pay for replacement cartridges when this printer has yet to print anything, let alone the 500~ pages the "initial black" cartridge is supposed to provide.

I'm still inclined to think the issue is with the rotation mechanism of the carousel itself, and I'm concerned that each time I attempt an initialization, with all the terrible grinding noises it makes, further damage might be happening to either the carousel and/or the cartridges as it tries to rotate. I'd ask for a replacement printer, but other posters have said that their new printers are being replaced with refurbished ones. Why would I want to do that? Will I be reimbursed for the money I paid for a new printer vs. a used one? I paid for a new printer that should have worked right out of the box.

Same issue, and the suggested remedies have been tried to no avail.
Would it be possible to be sent the reset instructions for the printer?
Also, seeing as though it is apparent that this is a frequently occuring issue, why are the instructions not made readily available for any user with the same issue, via an FAQ or something similar?

Thanks in advance,
Cpt.

The power reset did not work, so I contacted the telephone support line.  After going through all the steps AGAIN "for documentation", including hauling the printer aroundthe room TWICE to plug into different electrical outlets (again, "for documentation"), I finally reached a supervisor who arranged for a warranty replacement (not a factory sealed new printer, however, but one he assures me hasn't been used by a customer, but returned to HP from a store--will see what I get when it arrives)

Success!

Returned the M177fw to Amazon and exchanged it for a LaserJet Pro 200 M276nw. This one works great. Toner cartridges are in a tray (no "carousel" like the M177fw, which was unable to complete a rotation and stalled initialization). The plastic case is far more sturdy (doors don't flex when opening them), and the scanner (like all other scanners!) has a hinge that elevates to accommodate thick media such as books. M177fw didn't.

What's really amazing is that the price is essentially the same as the M177fw, which I had chosen for the smaller footprint. Turns out the M276nw isn't really all that much bigger, just WAY sturdier. Don't waste your time, go straight for the M276nw!

I am having the same issue, with others. i've had my printer for a few months.

I have the repeatedly cycling through "initializing" over and over. Previously also, randomly, it will go "offline" with no method I have sorted of getting it back online. When it's "offline" I can access the ip through the network so it is not a communication issue.

help!

HELP!!!

Clearly this is a manufacturing defect.

I need to print, I have a nice expensive paperweight that I bought from HP.

Please confirm how to return this and get my money back, so I can get a printer that works.
