HP Deskjet Advantage 1515
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

A HP Deskjet 1515 was recently donated at the nonprofit that I work at. It had one set of ink cartridges with it. It used 662, but now they don't carry that in any of the stores. Online it says that it's compatible with 61 and I bought 61XL Black, but it says that it's not compatible. I thought maybe it was the XL, so I just bought a regular 61 Black. Same thing. Not compatible. I did everything that HP suggested. I unplugged the printer and the cord, didn't work. I took out the cartridge and put it back in, didn't work. I cleaned the cartridge heads like they suggested, didn't work. I'm at a loss now. Can I update the printer or is there something else I can do? I just spent $45 on ink that doesn't work...

This is a great location to get assistance! I read your post and see that the 61 cartridges aren't working in the printer. The original cartridges were 652. I would like to help you resolve this issue. 
 
I checked the specifications for the printer and it is showing the printer supports the following:  HP 678, HP 650 and the HP 662. Here is the link:  Printer Specifications for HP Deskjet 1510 Printers.
The HP Deskjet 1510 All-in-One printer supports the HP 61, HP 122, and the HP 802.
Your post shows that you have the Deskjet Ink Advantage, 1510 model.

This doesn't help me at all... If you read my original post, you would see that I've already tried HP 61 and it doesn't work. Are you saying I should waste more money to see if HP 122 and HP 802 works on my printer because technically the HP61 should work, but doesn't. I would get HP 662, but they don't carry that one at any of the stores. I bought HP 61XL and HP 61, but both of them don't work and I can't return them so I'm out $45 now. Is there an update or something or can you guarantee that HP 122 and 802 will work??

I provided the cartridges for both models.

The HP Deskjet 1510 supports the HP 61 cartridges and not the Deskjet Ink Advantage 1510 which you have. They are different models.

 

Please contact HP Customer Support and inquire about replacement cartridges. They may be able to replace them for you. Fill in the model the number and the form to receive a case number for quicker assistance.

Which ink cartridge am I suppose to use then? I just searched for HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 1515 All-in-One Printer ink cartridge and it keeps showing HP 61. They don't carry 662, so which one are you suggesting that I use?

What location are you in?

 

Depending on what location you are at is what the cartridge numbers would be for the printer. If the printer was sent to you from another country then the printer would need to have the cartridges Regionalized to work in your location. 

 

I have provided this document with more information for which cartridges are to be used with both the models: HP Deskjet 1510 and HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 1510 All-in-One Printer Series - User Replaceable Parts...

 

It would be best to call into HP Customer Support since they can regionalize the cartridges if that is the issue. Let me know how you make out. Thanks!
