Problem installing printer

I have an older desktop using Windows Vista 2008 and trying to install a hp deskjet 3755 via cable.I do not wish to use it wirelessly.  I have a printer cable.  When i connect it to my computer, it tries to find software but is not successful.  I've gotten an error that says, "we don't support this operating system." Any ideas???
