I bought a HP LaserJet Pro, MFP m127-m128, PCLms. I had successfully used non-HP toner cartridge (or after market types). But one day, the printer simply refused to function and kept on giving the message that new toner is needed. Even the "scaning function" would not work. I replaced the toner by a genuine HP product, but I still get the same message. HELP!

Hi @Dchi3,

Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!  Smiley Happy Good day.  I read your post about toner issues with the printer. I will be delighted to assist you here. Smiley Happy

Stupendous diagnosis and spectacular analysis of the issue before posting.  Kudos to you on that score. It is always a privilege to work with technical specialists like you. Smiley Happy

We greatly value your relationship with HP. You are a valued HP customer and we appreciate you greatly for doing business with HP. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you.Smiley Happy

For better clarity and to assist you better, I would require more information regarding this:

  • What is the exact error message?
  • Have you tried to make copies directly from the printer to isolate the issue to not being hardware related?

Please perform a hard reset of the printer first by trying these steps:

  1. Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  5. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  6. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

  1. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  2. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.

  1. Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Then remove the toner and replace it again and check if it copies fine by performing copies directly from the printer without any intervention from the computer.

Try to copy both from the flatbed and ADF.

If it does not copy then the issue is hardware related and you will need to contact HP phone support to get the unit serviced or replaced.

Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/

Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect

Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"

Step 4. Scroll down and click: HP contact options - click on Get phone number, Case number and phone number appear.

They will be happy to assist you immediately. If the unit is under warranty repair services is taken care of by the manufacturer’s warranty

If it copies fine then please try to scan again and if there are any issues I will keep an eye out for your reply. Smiley Happy

Hope this helps.  Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Smiley Happy  Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you. Smiley Happy

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.

Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. Smiley Happy
