HP LaserJet 1022
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

Hello. I have an old HP LaserJet 1022 that I love to use for my print jobs. However, I have finally migrated over to an Apple MacBook Pro and the option to print is no longer the same. On my print jobs, I am to find the area that says "Two-Sided" copies under Layout, however, it is completely grayed out. I did a Google search and it appears that a lot of people have the same problem. Please help me with this problem so I can save a few trees. I print a lot of things for my school work.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @GrrBrr,

Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Forums for a solution to your printing issue.

I understand that you are trying to use an HP LaserJet 1022 Printer with an Apple MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan and the "Two-sided" option is grayed out. I would like to help with that.

I was kid of thinking that this would be a software issue, then when I searched for a Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan version of the printer's software and drivers, I found that the last Mac OS X version to have had an updated version of the printer's software and drivers for was Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger. If you are installing printer onto a  Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan operating system the printer will get installed with a HP Printer Driver and Software provided within your operating system. Click here to learn more about that.

You could try resetting the printing system on the Mac. If you are unsure how, here is an Apple Support document that can help - Reset the printing system.

When you are adding the printer on the 'Add' window, check to see if it offers anything other that the "AirPrint" option in the 'Use' drop-down menu.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.
