Hello MOUSEWOMAN,

Welcome to the HP Forums.

I see that you are having some issues with a wireless connection to the printer.

Try going on to the front panel of the printer and go into the Setup menu.  Once in the Setup menu, go to the Network Setup option and scroll down to the bottom to the Restore Network Defaults

  • Yes
  • No

Select YES to do the restore.  Once this is complete, go to the top of the menu and select Wireless Setup Wizard.

This will give you a new ip address and get the printer back on line.

If you have any issues or if you have any other questions, please feel free to write back at any time.

Cheers,   :generic:

Thanks for reply but restore factory defaults is locked out as well.  Everything is locked out. The printert did work great for a period of time as a stand alone wifi printer then just stopped working as a wifi printer one day.   I did manage to get the printer to work by conecting it to my wifi as a network printer, but that is not why i bought the printer.  The printet is wifi capable but has locked me out of using it that way.  I am NOT able to reset anything on the screen.  I know the code I used to set the printer up in the first place and the printer will not even ask me for that code regardless of what setting I try and use or access or reset on the printer screen.  It has completely locked me out.  I am very disapointed in my HP printer, I had canon for 8 years and switched to HP (btw not because I was disapointed with canon but there was a great special at store for comparable printer to what I was looking for in features) and it only took 2 months for my HP printer to cause considerable issues.  any other suggestions on how I can use this printer for what it is intended for would be muchly appreciated.

Hello again Maggie20,

I have a couple other suggestions that we can try.

First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.

When the printer is back on, please use the on/off button to do a proper shut down.  This will do a semi power reset on the printer.

Because you mention Administration rights, here is a link that may assist with changing user account settings.

If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.

Thanks again for your time.

Cheers,  Smiley LOL

I can't get to any options, I get the message "builtin network capabilities have been disabled, contact your administrator or the person who set up the printer"
