Also having the same issue. We have a T830, with a 36" roll installed. On the workstation "HP DesignJet T830 MFP Properties" dialogue box, "Currently Loaded Paper" says "Roll: Plain Paper, 35.98 inches".
We are trying to print an Arch E (36"x48") sheet from AutoCAD, and the plotter shows above error and plots are mis-sized.
How do we tell the plotter that it is truely a 36" roll and not a 35.98" roll??
Frustrating when the plotter is "too smart".

Go to your printer property >>> print preference >> custom >> 36" wide 49" high.. portrait mode.
also select print quality.... normal should be ok.
apply .....
before you print, go to print setting & make sure the right size is there ..... otherwise click print setting >> custom >>> your 36x49 in portrait mode.
My steps were from Adobe Photoshop & your program might be different.
but basic should be similar which to custom to define
the media sizes for your prints accordingly & properly.. you will lose little for margins.
